I'm quite happy to keep using Safari on Mac but if this is going to work on Firefox/Windows then I'll be so happy. 99% of my purchases are through Apple Pay. I hate having to type in my card on Windows PC. Let me use Apple Pay! :D

Exactly what I’m thinking. This will be huge if it works in any browser, on any computer.

so the other browsers can't use TouchID like Safari can? I'd rather use Safari than a browser that requires me to have my phone too.
Firefox has the option of locking credit card auto-fills behind Touch ID (from credit card information saved to Firefox itself, not Apple Pay).

Wow lol finally. Hated having to open a safari window just to use apple pay for something and get the 2% cashback

Maybe people can use Apple Pay to buy a clue as to why they’re using a crap browser.

Having to reach for your iPhone, opening the camera, lining it up correctly and then scanning a QR code and pressing the little link feels kinda clunky, but it's better than nothing.

I'm using a payment service that works like that in my country. Basically you scan the QR code. Of course there you have to open the specific app. But afterwards i usually barely see what the camera sees and it is already scanned and asks me to confirm. It is very fast.

Since most people have the camera in quick access, this will be very fast and easy.

Anyone else think they’re opening up more and more to sell as not being a monopoly and hopefully have less eyes on them?
lol absolutely but the eyes won't stop because they're successful. Regardless, these features were very much needed. Ironically, this will keep me in Apple eco systems because these features are so good and I can hopefully use them anywhere when I need to.

They get a cut frorm it, I always wondered why they were so closed with it when it literally makes them money.
Hopefully this will also blow your mind. They take a 3% of 3%.
So you buy something for a dollar, the processor takes 3-5% (3 to 5 cents) and from that Apple gets their cut.

Why not just have it open a dialog on your computer to let you pay by fingerprint?
I imagine it doesn't know what account you want to use until you scan the code with the device logged in.

I do like your idea though. The flow would just have to change to ask for your Apple Account email address first, then ping all your devices logged in. In a way it would be similar to Apple Account 2FA. This method would also allow your Mac to approve an Apple Pay. Which is probably the device you are already on anyway. 👍

I think they realized that not many people want to use their browser, and if they want Apple Pay to compete with things like Affirm or PayPal or whatever, they have to support more than the what, #3 browser in terms of popularity?

If you had used (for example) Pay Pal, no need to "type any card" in any place...

I agree, multi platform choices are the best...

This is great news. I use my Apple Card physically or through Apple Pay for everything. I get a lot of cash back. In 1 year, between my wife and I, we’ve gotten $2,300 cash back in a year. We use all that for our vacation. Best thing is we never have paid interest once, since getting the card. We give payments for the full balance every 4-5 days, so we never pay interest. Yes, I can wait on the payment until it’s due, but we’ve been doing it this way and both our credit scores are at 815+. Credit score fluctuates between 815 and 840 I’ve noticed. But it’s working for us so we keep doing it that way.

We reap the benefits with all the cash back without paying interest, and just making regular purchases we would have made through our bank card either way. Since it’s a credit card, my money is not in play in case any unauthorized purchases have been made, my credit score stays above 815, and it just works for us.

Now I can use it for other purchases on other browsers. That is if they update their website with it, of course. Good thing either way.

Yeah, but we're talking about millions of transactions. For example, in my country all POS by law have to accept contacless and they pushed them heavily during the pandemic, I dont know of anyone with an iphone that doesn't use apple pay. Even the banks push apple and google pay as the "ecological" option and the central bank waived the card pin requirement if you use them. I also try paying with apple pay whenever possible on the internet, or paypal if not available.

Last time I had to pay with card was when I went to the US on vacations.
