As a long time Android Nexus and Pixel owner, as silly as it might seem, being able to move icons in any number (within the available space) and anywhere on the screen in IOS might finally be reason I switch to an iPhone. But it is laughable that it has taken this long to get that functionality.
It is a long awaited feature for sure, instead of relying on an over-engineered workaround to use gestures and backtaps for the reachability shortcut.

Okay guys that’s it. It’s official. Apple is just like any other company. If you can not hold your unique design standards and give customers too many choices then it’s a sign of weakness. Beautiful design was one of the major selling points for Apple. Hoped for a complete new chapter of design since there hasn’t been major changes since iOS 7. Reminds me of the old phone legacy

long overdue and welcome change, why did it take them like 15 years though...

You can keep it on the default setting, Apple is not forcing you to change it, but this is a welcome change for folks who do want to customize their own phone.

This is GARBAGE. 2024. And Apple still doesn’t let us customize the home screen grid size. Say I want an extra column so I can fit more icons on the first screen for easier access. And option scale down the icons a little bit. Who gives a damn crap about leaving blanks on icon space?? And coloring icons?? WTH?

EDIT: to be honest. I get the idea why Apple wants to retain a strict rule over how homescreens look. It makes it easier and consistent for all users so there are less confusions in learning to use iPhones. But hey now you let people leave blanks or even change icon colors, that’s a much bigger step than just letting people add an extra column or row of icons for practicality!

I am stoked for anything that improves my dark mode experience. As for putting icons anywhere, I’m more likely to cram my first home screen with as many app folders and widgets as possible, but I could see this being useful on my subsequent home screens. It will be fun to play with this effect with certain wallpapers that have interesting compositions that you can work with.

You know what I want next? Separate wallpapers for each Home Screen, and maybe I could coordinate each one a separate color with their own icon tint?

Nope.

Apple has given just enough customisation to allow your phone to be vaguely unique, but not enough to spoil their aesthetic.

I would have been surprised if Apple allowed total freedom to resize icons and place them anywhere on screen.

Younger me would have loved to black & white all my icons.
But color is super useful now.

So this just looks ugly to me .
Dark mode icons are ugly also.

This is for the kids

And yet… still no damn theme option. Pretty sad to be honest.

My snap reading of this, why is it so unimpressive, so you can move icons around, slightly shade them, change colors on them, if you are going to bother us with AI and all of its so called amazing features, which in reality are not doing much of anything impressive, at least from my perspective, but if you are going to tout the amazing Apple Intelligence, can you let me fully control the home screen, let me change app icons to fonts, like on the old Microsoft Zune, let me customize icons to be like the old IOS skeumorphic style, let me change the shape of them, let there be zero essential icons that I can't remove, Apple, please,

Let there be light.

Because your IOS still feels like a cookie cutter paint by numbers generic operating system of yore.

finally peoples home screens can all look different for once. just seeing more of wallpapers will be ideal

How do I get this feature to work? I don't see it when I edit the home screen.
