Awesome. I typically use 80% charging, but sometimes I think 85% would be better for me, and it will be nice to slowly increase as the battery ages (and iOS versions get more battery hungry).
Agreed. Being able to switch to 85% or 90% on demand will be nice when anticipating needing a touch more than 80%.

Still no option to enable/disable this limit in Control Center? I’d like to keep mine on 80% for normal use, but be able to easily revert back to normal charging when I know I’m going to need it, without having to dive layers into Settings.

The charging limit feature remains exclusive to the iPhone 15 lineup on the first iOS 18 beta, with the option not found on the iPhone 14 Pro or older.
Surely such a computationally expensive operation (comparing charge levels) can only be done on the latest CPU and nothing else.

Cool, I wanted this. 90% seems like a sweet spot, although I would prefer this for my Mac.
I really don't understand why Apple doesn't provide it for MacOS. The built-in limiter has never worked for me and trust me I even reformatted / re-setup the entire machine hoping it'd start working. Such a hard limit would be very easy to implement.

It is not active when it is not running. So while rebooting or when macOS is shut down the macbook will charge until 100%.

Well, I didn't close the app or shut anything down, I just closed the lid and connected the charger. It charged to 69 and stopped there, as if 69 was my set limit, it's not that I disconnected it when it reached 69 as it stopped charging well before then. I figure this was a bug.

Given that it is usually off by a few points for me, I tought that this is because AlDente has a different reading of the battery charge, kind of like how Coconut shows you a slightly different percentage than Apple.
It doesn't really matter, that doesn't take away from its use.

Why not for all devices Apple? Cause it‘s Apple. I would be very happy to limit the new battery in my 11 Pro to 80%.

Yeah, I use AlDente and I like it a lot. It isn't always accurate/reliable for me (set limit at 55 and it charged to 69 today), it is often going to be off by a few points but it doesn't matter.
It’s likely that your laptop went to sleep during a charge cycle, there are some limitations regarding that.

If you can JB, then, it's possible; see the thread above - the code is there; it's just that it isn't enablled for anything pre-15. (This also means it was a marketing decision - as usual.)

Fantastic. Apple has been getting that users want choice. And they’re delivering.

On my previous devices, charging from 0%-91% incurs the same wear on the battery as charging from 91%-100%.

I just wish Apple enabled this on all devices, such as older iPhones and, especially, MacBooks!

There is a lot of complaining about the latest software releases but wow Apple are putting a lot of work into this and have put out some solid updates year over year. Its not perfect but there’s so many little things that are in this release.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't this just happen with the new M3 Macs? With a software update they were magically able to display 2 screens instead of one?
The issue is that people see a software update adding or doing something and think it’s only software. Software updates can include firmware. They also have to run on something. It’s just possible that there are hardware limitations.

The real question is could Apple magically make M2 or M1 Macs display on two external monitors (and the internal one) with a software update? If the M3 can do it, that doesn’t mean older Macs can.

I do no external battery management, other than optimized charging. My iPhone 13 Pro gets charged randomly but is usually charging the most all night using a MagSafe charging stand. I’ve had the phone ever since launch and am at 92% battery health.
I typically only fast-charge mine during the day and then top up again in the evening before bed. I expected fast charging to wear it down faster but with my 90% management I guess it helped prolong it.

I used to just slow charge to 100% on my nightstand while I slept with my older iPhones and the batteries degraded a lot faster.

All four iPhone 15 models feature a setting that prevents the devices from charging beyond 80% while toggled on, which can potentially improve an iPhone battery's lifespan by reducing the time that the battery is fully charged. And with iOS 18, Apple has taken this feature a step further by adding new 85%, 90%, and 95% charging limit options.

The feature can be found in the Settings app under Battery → Charging.

The charging limit feature remains exclusive to the iPhone 15 lineup on the first iOS 18 beta, with the option not found on the iPhone 14 Pro or older.

The first iOS 18 beta is now available for Apple Developer Program members, and a public beta will follow in July. Following beta testing, the update should be widely released to all users with an iPhone XS or newer in September.

I request in beta 2 or beta 3 of IOS 18 it’s will be available for iPhone 14 Pro Max level charging for battery like 80 percent 85 percent 90 percent 95 percent

The iPhone 13’s have particularly good batteries compared to previous generations, I think. Mine (non-Pro) still reports 95% (!) capacity after 18 months, which is far better than any of my previous iPhones did over a similar timeframe.

I have made some attempt to limit charging to 80%-ish, but there have been many times where I haven’t been able to unplug it and it’s gone all the way to 100%.

Just go on, but don't hold your breath - Apple will NOT implement this. That is, they won't remove the plain device model check in front of the otherwise finely executing (see the JB remark above) code.
