iOS 18 looks awful

The dark mode icons look really bad. That would be fine seeing as I can just use light mode icons, but that also now screws with the way widgets look, so my Robinhood and Battery widgets now are messed up to use light mode. It needs to be more granular.

I was looking forward to finally getting rid of the icon labels with the large icons, but the large icons also look terrible. Just let me remove the icon labels. Why is this so difficult?

Anyway I know it's only beta but this all seems really poorly thought out.

I disagree. The dark mode icons look great, at least the ones that were properly made to be for dark mode. iOS 18 finally has some of the customization we have been waiting for years now. I agree we should be able to remove the icon labels on the normal size icons as well, mostly because I hate the stupid updated app blue dots that are nothing more than an eye sore. Make your suggestions known to Apple using the Feedback app and you never know, they may actually listen if enough people suggest change or refinements. We are only on DB 3 after all.

Love the dark icons!

What I do not like is, if you rearrange the icons around a wallpaper image, and you choose another wallpaper that you had earlier, the icons stay in the new shape! Whereas, if you change them to large or dark, that only affects the current wallpaper and not any others. This seems a bit inconsistent?
 
I would love to have native and easy custom icons support. Shareable icon packs would have been great too

The 'thumbs up' and 'heart' are really bad. The cartoonification of iOS continues. It's bad enough Apple rinse every atom of telemetry from their customers, they condescend to them too.

Agreed. Between things like the dark tinted icons, large icons and the all the various odd new UIs they keep layering on, something's gone very wrong with whoever's responsible for the Home Screen. The whole thing needs a complete overhaul.

Totally disagree. They are truly a work of ugliness.

Issue is there are too many cooks in the proverbial kitchen. Apple has been making UI errors for many many years now. They totally screwed up MacOS years ago when they decided we no longer needed color in the sidebar or color highlights. People do see in color and some of us like it that way. Why this is not a toggle option is beyond me.

I'm fine with the regular dark mode icons. I'm not fine with the tinted dark mode icons. I tried to like them, I tried different colors to see if anything stuck for me. I’m just not able to get over the dark mode all the time theme it gives. Why couldn't they use that same algorithm to make tinted light icons too? It's even worse that it's pretty much the only thing they market on on the iPhone 16/16 Pro page.

The tinted icons would look better if all the default colur options weren't so dark, it didn't put a wash on the black backgrounds and we could choose tinted icons but with a white background. As it stands they're not great unless you make them completely monochrome.

100% the same. Some third part apps made especially great ones.

I cannot see me ever using tinted mode. I think it looks horrible.
