Apple has tested a redesigned version of Control Center with a customizable layout for iOS 18, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. However, we have not confirmed if this change has been finalized for the update.

The new Control Center would feature a drag-and-drop system that allows at least some of the controls to be reorganized directly on the interface, our sources said. Currently, only the smaller controls in the bottom half of Control Center for things like the flashlight and Low Power Mode can be rearranged or removed through the Settings app.

If this plan moves forward, it would represent the biggest redesign to Control Center since iOS 11 was released in 2017. On the iPhone X and newer, the menu can be opened by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen, providing controls for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, display brightness, volume, and many other system functions.

We'll find out if the redesigned Control Center is happening in just days from now, as Apple is set to unveil iOS 18 during its WWDC keynote on June 10. The first beta of iOS 18 will likely be made available to members of the Apple Developer Program immediately following the keynote, and the update should be widely released in September.

This would be a welcome change. The only foreseen issue will be with people who aren't tech savvy & screw up the layout of their Control Center. Like in macOS with the "Customizable Toolbar" section, there will probably be a way to revert to a default Control Center.

Sick....hoping that the music widget gets bigger, or we can adjust sizes like on the home screen

It only took 17 years
Apple users like to gaslight themselves and say "Apple is often late, but they take time to do things right." But so often we are talking about something simple like this, not building an intergalactic spaceship. It's like taking two decades to learn how to boil water. And history tells us Apple will still mess up the first few versions.

I imagine they might take some inspiration from the widgets and give it a dose of colour as well.

If they really wanted to change things up they should add it to the app card screen as a LH-swipe so you can access it with a thumb. Being at the top of the display is unergonomic and an accessibility nightmare, especially on the bigger phones. On the lock screen it would replace the camera swipe; there’s already a button for that

Kinda like this.

Given Apple’s track record they won’t let you remove Apple items like AirPlay and you will find yourself accidentally entering customization mode when you try to use the control center.

that's good, but in and by itself, not a reason to upgrade to ios18 ... so waiting for more improvements (but not genAI)

This. The amount of swiping, holding, tapping that iOS now has is insane. I am always inadvertently activating something I don't want. Great example, is the lock screen. Hold the phone wrong and you're editing the lock screen. Have a notification that doesn't want to co-operate? You now activated the camera. They need to clean it up a bit.

I'm not worried about control center. I'm not in there enough to need customization.

Any rumours on replacing the torch and camera buttons on the lock-screen?

If I owned Canon or Nikon I'd make every single button on my cameras make phone calls, just to troll Apple.

Wow, so many advanced new features. First it changing the color of icons, then arranging them on the screen, then ai emojis. Pretty soon iOS is going to be as technologically advanced as Android, that even Marques will finally ditch Android and elope with iOS.
This is an amazing time to be alive.

To be fair, I feel like this could be said about every company though.
Can you name an OS that doesn’t have one absolutely essential feature that’s just… missing? Or weirdly implemented?

Android 1.0 didn’t even have a virtual keyboard for example.
Apple Music still doesn’t support FLAC, Spotify still doesn’t even do Lossless although maybe that’s actually happening this time.
