All I want is the ability to schedule a message for when I think of something late at night and I don’t wanna bother someone till the morning.
Agreed! Though since modern phones have do-not-disturb modes I just go for it and send the 2 AM thought. Unless they’re an older person, I think the ethics on that have changed. Most of the people I send to have Apple’s DND message turned on that late.

They have to make iMessage only features so that it is still appealing to iPhone users after they include RCS..
I think you will be fine because Apple will probably not even acknowledge RCS in the keynote & just focus on iMessage as they have done since they first announced iMessage

The delay in adopting RCS by Apple is something I don’t understand. In the UK, no one cares about blue/green bubbles. Many of us use WhatsApp/Messenger/Telegram. All of my closest family use iPhones , but we communicate on a WhatsApp group.

I still want an option that allows you to Add to Dictionary any word that messages doesn't recognize. Tap on the red line and Add to Dictionary is an option. Cripes, Windows Mobile had that feature so many years ago.

The reason for the delay is a country in Asia has made it law that if you make a 5g phone then you must support RCS.
So basically Apple are waiting to the last minute before rolling out this feature to iOS.

With Apple adopting a long standard with RCS, this should open the door for a Windows messaging client that supports iphone. Would be huge!

That it will be!

In my family's group message chain, all of us aside from my brother's wife-to-be are all on iPhones, and it makes it so annoying when she sends us photos or videos as they come in all compressed to hell..

This should have been done YEARS ago, but until now Apple was so resistant to RCS until Google finally convinced them.
"...Google finally convinced them." - I wonder how big a check it took to "convince" them? 🤔

Tell me about it, I'm the only Android user in even my extended family. I've had to rely on a Mac server and the BlueBubbles app just to do completely basic stuff like send pics/videos. Will be nice to ditch the setup and just message the way it's supposed to be.
Oh wow; as annoying of a workaround that has to be, at least you didn't deal with Beeper and that whole brouhaha that was with them cutting off support with iMessage earlier this year

Wouldn't that be novel?
I still can't believe this functionality does not yet exist.
Be nice to be able to include hyperlinks.

Slack has had this functionality for what seems like forever. C'mon apple, join the 2020s.
I didn't even think there was a desire for such a thing... The whole point of text messaging / iMessages is to have a quick conversation.... Who has time to be editing their messages making words bold, underlining words, etc... Kind of defeats the purpose of a quick text message.... If you're going to be doing all that then just send an email lol.

I still wished Apple would implement a new text bubble color for RCS incoming messages, though. I don't want all green for both SMS and RCS text.
We don't know yet what Apple is going to do for sure... It's all just rumors and speculations.

But I think it would be hilarious if they keep it green and continue to play on the whole green bubble stigma lol.

Send later feature. That's all I want. Write a message, schedule it to be sent at a later date/time. FUUUUUUUUUUU

Still no wallpapers, no status, no one time auto delete media, no reliable way to actually and easily delete all sent photos and videos … time to get my family back to WhatsApp. Ironically I was the one moving my mom and siblings to use Messages but after years of waiting patiently it’s time to give up

I totally agree with you, but there are a lot of times I just can't make that assumption with customers. I'd hate to piss off a customer or blow a deal because I woke them up at midnight. You are right though, I think the majority of people use DND, but......there is always one....

Just in case Apple reads these forums- for 10 years, the only new messaging feature I’ve ever wanted is the ability to schedules messages. I would pay a thousand dollars to be able to get that one new feature.

Waiting to see the new per word effects. Glad to see that RCS will be supported.

Oh I got caught up in the Beeper fiasco for sure. For a glorious week it worked wonderfully, no server required, then Apple shut it down. Even though it was a complete failure I'm glad it existed as it was probably just one more thorn in Apple's side, in addition to China and Google's marketing, to encourage RCS support.

Did I also mention I have to keep an old iPhone 6 in my dresser activated to my phone number using a sim swap trick? That's so I can use my phone number to send and receive iMessages. Yeah I'll be VERY happy once RCS support gets implemented. I wonder if it will be implemented with the iOS18 beta next week, or not until the full release.

Yup, and again, to believe that it took all this to FINALLY convince Apple to adopt RCS

And as for when it'll be supported, like many features as the beta rolls along, I don't think we'll be seeing the RCS support until the final release in the fall

I don't see how that applies to what I was responding to :)
You were responding to someone who was saying that Apple needs to retain extra features as iMessage-only. The purpose for that is to make iPhones more attractive than alternative platforms. Apple users would not choose to not have those features, but they would not be available to non-Apple users.

I'm sorry, I think I'm losing the point of the thread, are you implying that there are people who are only using iPhones because of (the incredible and amazing) iMessage features?..
