How can we definitely state which ones work and which need updates to work without iOS 18 beta being released yet? Possibility you see more information in another 24 hours if you ask about specific apps. 😉

Interesting, thank you for clarifying that. I knew that might be a possibility but for whatever reason was leaning towards a shortage of RAM rather than the design.
Can you elaborate why, how often, or the triggers that cause it to decide to clear the RAM? It seems to be pretty frequent and random for me. It’s crazy to think your iPad doesn’t hold onto temporarily stored memory any better than your phone with that big RAM delta.

It already exists on iPads. Would love for Apple to finally bring Split-View over to iPhone.

Yeah works great on iPads. But sadly I don’t use one. Just don’t have the need with a pro max size phone and a MBP.

Yeah, this is absolutely expected.
Foolishly, I’d hoped Apple had been working on this so long that they’d come out of gate with a decently strong Beta 1 like they did with iOS 17…

I’m not going to judge software’s bugginess even before it’s announced. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a tough beta period, but I’m not going to simply take Gurman’s word for it either.

Does Mark really think Apple isn't working hard on the beta right up to the first dev seed date? This is normal. Then you have that comment about some being surprised that first betas are available on June 10th. What a nitwit. The last comment, new features will be in beta, duh.
I also wouldn't be shocked that some hardware updates aren't casually announced where the base SoC changes. Those aren't major hardware announcements.

It's the developers job to make them work and our job as beta testers to tell them if they don't.
The annoying thing is in App Store will not let us report any problems there with apps if we are running beta software, I have often resorted to using the device running current software to report serious flaws to the developers in App Store. (yeah, I know, but stuff the NDA) I have no idea if the Feedback Assistant for third party app problems pass the info back to the developer.
Our national savings bank app did not work until the day before public release despite my reporting it in both places several beta versions earlier.

The reason for that is that developers cannot update their apps to the new IOS 18 APIs and frameworks until the public release of iOS 18 in September. The exception is that they can run limited betas via TestFlight. But those are usually invite only. So you are not running iOS 18 apps but iOS 17-based apps. And of course they may not work. They aren’t designed to.
So your job is actually NOT to test apps and let developers know because the apps you have access to are not optimized for iOS 18. Any feedback you provided would be irrelevant (and actually harmful to the developer’s reputation).
THE ONLY TIME YOU SHOULD REPORT ISSUES WITH AN APP DURING THE IOS 18 PRE RELEASE BETA PERIOD IS IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN A BETA FOR THAT APP AND THE ONLY WAY YOU SHOULD REPORT THAT IS VIA THE TESTFLIGHT FEEDBACK FUNCTION.
I don’t mean to be harsh here but posts like yours illustrates why people who are not developers or don’t otherwise understand the process should not be in this program.

Looking at the rumor rundown… it’s looking iOS 18 heavy (which is expected), don’t see much iPadOS related details. I’m anxious to see what WWDC will bring, but my excitement regarding iPadOS is kind of waning.

I was already expecting this due to all of the major changes expected... We will probably see some gnarly UI glitches at the beginning.... Unfortunately I suffer from FOMO when it comes to technology so I will be installing today lol.... I trust that everyone in here is pretty tech savvy and has a good backup ready to go?
