How does this compare to iOS 18.1.1 released yesterday? 🤔

Thats against the previous 18.1 beta cycle, it's just likely security based Safari 18.1 changes around webkit and javascriptcore with a newer Darwin Kernel used.

I also think there won't be a beta 5. Probably RC the week of December 2nd and public release the week of December 9th.
The interesting thing will be when the beta cycle of iOS 18.3 starts. If it brings new AI features, they might release the first beta the same week as the RC beta of 18.2, so they can release a second beta before the Christmas break if they want. If 18.3 will be a version without any new features, just bug fixes, we will probably see the first beta the same week as the release of 18.2 and then the break will come until January.

Who said if was definitively Dec 9th? Mark Gurman?

No. Earlier he actually said the first week in December but has seemingly backed off that. Now, it’s just “December”

Using logic. As I noted yesterday, the last several years, the .2 beta was released during the second week in December. That means the RC the week before. There won’t be any betas next week due to Apple’s nearby company-wide shutdown due to Thanksgiving. So this is quite likely the last beta before the RC.

There will not be a beta 5, I am reasonably certain. RC the week of 12/2.
And there we have it.

Apple previously announced that iOS 18.2 will be released in December. More specifically, we recently reported that the update will likely be released on Monday, December 9. Other updates should be released at the same time, including iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2, visionOS 2.2, and HomePod Software 18.2.

So… iOS 18.3 beta 1 drops that Tuesday! 😁

Per Apple
New Apple Intelligence features will be available in December, with additional capabilities rolling out in the coming months.
I don't know if hope has ever done us anything for us getting it faster around Thanksgiving in the States. We kinda expect it the 1st half of December. Last time it was Dec 11th, and Dec 13th twice before that for the last three xx.2 releases. Will we see another beta seeding next week before Thanksgiving? Then the week after Thanksgiving? Time will tell?

Thinking positively, maybe some heat is on Apple to get this done, instead of stuffing their faces and taking long walks this holiday season. We never had a series of Monday seedings until this year; maybe the near future will be more urgently pursued. They can do all that good stuff later in December with signs on their doors or cubes all saying " out of the office, have a nice day."

I guess the fact there is a complete lack of what iOS/iPadOS 18.3 offers isn’t helping things. ;)
I’m going to go out on a limb here and speculate that iOS and iPadOS 18.3 will possibly continue to expand the “Default Apps” menu introduced in iOS/iPadOS 18.2. Maybe they’ll add default app options for opening certain file types. I don’t know if this would come in 18.3, but I definitely believe it is likely coming. This would address a complaint expressed by some about Files on iPadOS especially. I think we’ll also see some new Control Center controls as well. We’ll likely also get some additional Apple Intelligence features and further improvements to Siri as well.

How about 19.0? 😂
I’m enthusiastically waiting for some iPadOS 19.0 rumors! It’s been so quiet so far. I think with iPadOS 17, we were already getting some rumors and leaks around this time.

Anyhow, I think hopefully we’ll get another 18.2 beta next week before Thanksgiving break.

Apple is off next week. So very doubtful.

Honestly now with my new iPad Pro M4 I feel that too. I love the iPad but it definitely can do more if they would just expand on the software some more without making the Mac useless.

Yeah, my M1 iPad Pro is actually my primary computer! 👍🏻. I use it for graphic design, writing, 3D modeling/sculpting, and all of my normal daily duties. I do also have an M1 Mac Mini that I use for these things as well occasionally, but not nearly as often. There are a few things I’d like to see improved in iPadOS, but I’m probably around 99% happy with where it is currently. I think iPadOS and macOS are very close now in terms of functionality, so it’s nice to watch them get closer. I think iPadOS will always be different from macOS, but the feature-set and app ecosystem will likely continue to converge. 👍🏻

I think iPadOS 18 is actually a decent step in that convergence. With Control Center controls, iPadOS now has a way to incorporate a similar concept to Menu Bar apps on macOS. And the ability to reformat external drives in the Files app indicates to me that Apple is moving in that direction. Also, Apple Intelligence seems like it could be a point of convergence, as it’s a single unified interaction across both devices.

There is a slim chance that we see beta 5 Monday.
I guess it's up to Tim depending on the work situation/goals. Most USA companies don't have the week off, only Thanksgiving on Thursday and the Friday (aka Black Friday - retail). Seems like the Monday or Tuesday seeds are just released after they are completed the previous week by Apple. No one thinks they have them finalized minutes before the usual 10 AM PST time point. Although some days we do suspect things are not all prefect when we see things running late. :D

They haven’t released anything during Thanksgiving week in years (if ever). I don’t expect that to change.
