Darn, another RC…. Well, at least we got an update…. Hopefully iOS 18.3 beta 1 drops this week.

I’m sure Apple did not either until late last week (or even the weekend).

We’ll see public on Wednesday (unless RC2 does not fix whatever the issue is).
Note Apple used pretty much the same kernel with beta 4 and RC, now the RC2 forced them to use something a couple of week newer, so some kind of zero event is reasonable assumption.

Agree. Apple NEVER plans on a second RC and for them to do that and likely delay as important an update (for them) as 18.3 represents AND to do it across multiple platforms bespeaks something pretty serious.

And I’m glad they did it, rather than chance waiting for an 18.3.1 in a week or so.

That is definitely a possibility.
Makes one wonder why they didn’t release it as official today with a new build? What’s keeping them to continuing with RC, must be a critical issue/s as you say.

Could be a very quick affair now with a proper release later this week.

I’m pretty sure we’ve had updates drop later in the week before?

Cool find! And so much for the „Apple is several weeks ahead with internal builds!“-rumors. ;)

Now maybe public release tomorrow. I’m guessing they wanted to stick with RC just another day or maybe two to ensure no new issues from the changes they had to make. So hopefully public release tomorrow or day after, and 18.3 beta 1 day or two after that. 👍🏻

I feel like public might be Weds or Thurs. Otherwise it seems strange to release RC 2 and public the next day. You would think that they would just release the public as a newer build. But again nothing about 18 has been logical so goodness knows at this point.....

I agree. It makes zero sense for them to release RC 2 today and a public release tomorrow. I’m betting on Wednesday this week being the public release day for iOS 18.2 and all other software updates (MacOS 15.2 etc)

Zollotech has a video up regarding RC 2 by the way and he noted quite a few bug fixes and refinements throughout the OS from RC 1

Using the past RC release to public betas for iOS XX.c , two out of three were 6 days later, one was 5 days later. Thats discussing Weds Dec 11th again. 18.3 beta would be this Thursday maybe then. ;)

My prediction:

Dec 16: RC3
Dec 23: nothing due to holidays the same week
Dec 30: nothing due to holidays the same week
Jan 6: nothing due to associations with J6
Jan 13: nothing due to Tim's triskaidekaphobia
Jan 20: nothing due to Inaug Day
Jan 27: public release

I get where you are coming from, but I think a change in the kernel version is more than they would ever do as a build or two increment and then let it loose as a public release. This really is one of those things for which an additional RC is needed.

But I share your optimism about a public release in a day or two.

As I just replied to @kalmadda, there’s no way they’re going to release a build with an entirely new kernel as a “newer build”. That’s a pretty drastic change and if a zero day vulnerability is the reason, they need to 100% certain the new version addresses the issue.

No offence but every single prediction you’ve made in this thread that I’ve seen has been wrong 🙃

Some good humor from SamTime to watch while you're waiting for 18.2 to go public. :D

Sadly, I don’t find this very humorous. Apple’s storage and RAM pricing are very reasonable and justified. Many competitors are charging the same or more for similar upgrades. It isn’t the big “scandal” these content creators want to make it…

But hey, I’m just as accurate as Mark Gurman… 😂👍🏻. And not every prediction I’ve made in this entire thread has been off base, mostly my predictions about 18.2 RC, and most of the people here in this thread were also surprised by that.

And if anyone is right, it’s sheer luck as none of us are privy to any insider info (presumably!)

There are some good barbs, somethings are obviously erroneous of course, but its just get your mind off RC2 means a couple more days likely before Public and 18.3 beta being a few days away. ;)
