A sandbox app it completely different than a system level thing, that interacts with entire system. And it was much slower on iPhone4 almost unusable, are you saying that Apple intentionally made it run slower on the iPhone4 knowing that someone would install it on a jailbroken phone, and not disable there "intentional" slowdowns?
It wouldn't be the first time they cut off access when it was plenty capable of running on said devices. So yes, apple used it as a way to sell new hardware (even when it ran on the old hardware).

A quick Google search shows that isn’t the case on android anymore. Both Google and Samsung (the two major players on android) support devices 4+ years. Also, I never said to expect to get every feature but to limit it to just the newest and last generation is laughable (the 14 pro and probably even 13 series) has plenty of power under the hood to handle these things.

There is a lot more than Google and Samsung in the Android ecosystem. And yes even today there are tons of Android devices being sold stuck on 2-3 older versions of Android. Sure Google and Samsung have "better" support, but that's only a fraction of the market.

The latest S24 Ultra doesn't have on device AI and they announced their AI feautures during that. You should be happy that an actual old device gets it.
Not a single android device supports on device AI. Even the S24 ultra doesn’t.

Wtf are y’all complaining. Apple is actually doing better than the other companies lol.

Who told you this? Because I'm holding in my hand right now the S23U and I have the option to: Process data only on device, so what you are claiming is not true.
And it's the S23U, not the latest S24. It's unfortunate the 14 Pro Max won't support the same AI capabilities as the 15 Pro, I suspect that the 6GB Ram plays a big role, the S23U has 8 or 12GB and also maybe a lot of people don't remember but when Qualcomm launched the 8 Gen 2 they presented it as "an AI chip", so AI has been a very big focus for Qualcomm for years while Apple is obviously trying to catch up in this department.

All the hype and craze for AI. Stupid
really, watching how most people use their phones this will likely be nothingburger BUT we all know why Apple has to play the "AI" game. Apple is supposed to be 'behind' but everything that I see getting release has a disclaimer not to trusted.

Almost all popular Android OEMs support +3 Android versions plus an aditional year of security updates. This is on mid-rangers as as well, high-ends are generally better.
Also Samsung is not a fraction of the market, it's the majority actually(over 20% of the entire smartphone market), in some segments they are over 60% of the Android phones being sold and they have decent support even on their low end phones.

I am hoping this ends up being like Stage Manager on the iPad, where they said the hardware could not support it and then ended up giving it to us.

That's still a fraction. But I have a very nice example here. I recently bought a Razer Edge. Which was introduced january 2023 and runs Android 12. (which was introduced in october 2021) Even though there have been 2 new major releases it still is stuck on Android 12. (it does get security updates, but no major OS releases) Also for a price of €500 it wasn't cheap.

And Razer isn't a small company either.

Unless Apple uses AI for photo editing / video editing, no one will care.

It’s a BS hype train.

The features that were “possible”, are useless.

On Android you'd be lucky if the device you buy will get one new major release. Or even that it will run the newest version of Android.
Well my S23U got all the AI features the S24 introduced and it's able to do on device only processing as well.
The S22 as well fully supports S24's AI features while on the S21 and 20 there partial support for some features.
Pretty good I would say and I wouldn't say I'm lucky as something like this is expected.

And only the cheapest no name android phones it's possible they woudn't get a new Android version.
I don't undestand why users here keep insisting with this.

It's not a fraction, I already explained.

Razer Edge is not a smarphone and doesn't enforce your point at all.

Luckily Apple also supports devices for 6+ years with updates, sure you can't get every new feature on every device.. But you still get most new features and all security updates and base OS support.

On Android you'd be lucky if the device you buy will get one new major release. Or even that it will run the newest version of Android.
This used to be the case in the past but not anymore.
Pixels will get 6 major releases at least nowadays + security updates.
"Your Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro comes with 7 years of OS updates". Same with Samsung.

Is on the latest android for example. It was cheaper than the iPhone SE + in many places you got the Galaxy buds for free.

Samsung stated that both 4G and 5G variants will get 3 OS version updates, 3 years of monthly updates and 4 years of security updates. As of March 2024, the A52 series has already received an update to Android 14 and One UI 6.0.

Next time do more research what you are buying.

Pixel 8a would be clearly better value than for example iPhone SE and has the AI features.

Agreed. This is such garbage and them keeping the "AI" features behind an upgrade wall is bogus. This is just an attempt to force upgrades but most people, myself included, really do not care about AI.

Apple uses your data the same way google does. Privacy is a buzz word introduced by Apple to let you think it’s safe. Pure Apple marketing.

I’ll wait for wwdc to see what the future holds. If it’s true what’s being said I’ll have a definite breakup with greedy Timmy and their gang of crooks
No they don't and that's been reported many times as one of the reasons why Siri was stagnating.

Every time you interact with something from Google, they collect data on you, which is not the case with Apple. This lets Google improve their product all the time, while Apple has to be more creative.

Too bad I can’t set my iphone model as one that won’t support AI. Since Apple wants responsiveness, Ai models might be locked in memory taking it away from other apps.

Yeah, if ONLY Apple never nagged users to update its software or check updates automatically And produce red dots on settings app that can’t get rid of unless updating the software. If there’s ever an MDM to let me control when the update is installed, I’d use it. But there’s none.

Yeah they aren’t, until you realise companies have conditioned users to keep their software up to date, regardless of the hardware capability where The updated software is installed on. Update update update and oh snap I miss out on new features!?

So because the phone nags you to update to the latest software, you perceive this as a promise to give you every new feature that is released now and in the future?

I wonder if in the near future companies will allow users to opt out of AI "features". I'm not all in on AI, I have a lot of concerns and questions about what their ultimate goal is with this and I personally think it would be admirable for a company like Apple to allow you to refuse these services and applications.

Could it be Apple still have access of you data and still unable to make Siri great?

If Apple doesn’t want you data, then why there is option for sending Siri voice data to Apple? I am sure Apple use your and mine data for product improvement, I think it is fine.

Also it isn’t like Google is selling your information with your name attached. It is always randomized data without identifiable data. Seriously, Google nor advertisers wants your personal information, it is useless to them

Yay! My new iPhone 15 is obsolete already even though it’s the LATEST model!

You should have get the iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB model. I promise you, your iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB won’t be obsolete next year when Apple introduced brand new second generation AI model that only runs iPhone 16 Pro Max with 5TB model and 20GB RAM, due to large storage needs and RAM!

You know Apple is all about privacy and security, in order to run such state of art AI model, Apple will need these spec. Of course, you need to prepare to sell your home for new iPhone 16 Pro Max 5TB model with 20Gb RAM. Or you can do $1000 a month with 25 years of amortization, what a nice deal!

I do not like green eggs and AI, for it makes me want to sigh
I will not have it on my PC, for I tell them, leave me be
I will not have it on my Mac, but they insist on talking smack
I will not have it in my house... not with our dogs... they'd kill that mouse!
I will not have it in the cloud... I'll say it now, I'll say it loud!
I will not have here or there... please go away, get out of my hair!
AI was meant to be our friend... but it will trap you in the end
Robot dogs so cute and sunny... now with guns and flamethrowers... not so funny.
The Terminator and AI... once wondered how... have arrived... they're here... NOW.

Welcome to Revelation... the bible was right all along.

But hey let’s wait how good or bad those AI features are. Maybe it’s good to have the latest dumb smartphone.
