Finally giving users option of dark mode in 2024 just shows how cut of from reality and consumers, these companies really are. What took them so long? It's not like this is some "special technology that just came out recently" related feature or anything, it's just pure ignorance and incompetence from companies and their UX teams.

More choice is good. I do hope though, that dark mode won't become the standard. My aging eyes don't tolerate bright text on dark backgrounds very well. It might have to do with my worsening astigmatism. Either way, for me light mode is much more comfortable to read, even at night.

To me, it looks like a lot of features aren’t going to be present on launch day. If leaks are accurate, this is going to be the biggest release in Apple’s history.
Thats's what has been rumored since January 😜

Isn't the purpose of dark mode to let you focus on the content?

On the home screen, app icons seem like "the content" to me.

I don't think I like this.

It seems like you’re the one here who’s “cut off from reality”. iOS has had Dark Mode since iOS 13, first previewed 5 years ago. This is merely Apple expanding dark mode to specifically cover the individual icons on the Home Screen. I've never ever heard someone in real life complain about the current lack thereof.

That is not the sole purpose or even the main purpose of dark mode.

More than likely. There may be an AI element to it where developers can allow the system to recolor without having to do anything manually, that would be very Apple like.
Yeah I can definitely see an automagically generated fallback that can be overridden by just providing the icon yourself

That way everyone is happy
