I hope Live Translate is good and easy to use. For example, pop in the AirPods Pro and it starts to translate whatever language is spoken in front of me. There could be another mode where it translates everything it can hear around me….several languages

Not expecting to see personalised Siri on day one. Hopefully it will be released this year. Looking forward to seeing the design changes.

I wonder what this means for the iPad tab bar.

Currently, I think it's maybe the worst bit of UI in the entire ecosystem.

Apple’s always been good about “reduced transparency” and “reduced motion” options in Accessibility.

The design of all of Apple's recent first party apps has me very concerned about this UI overhaul. Basically every change they have made has made every app worse with each update.

Yes, some of these bad decisions can be fixed via accessibility. But many more can't. For example, the auto playing ads in the TV app can't be disabled even with reduce motion, stop autoplaying video, etc.

Their profits are more important than our experience.

I’m not even talking about app design though, this problem is more fundamental than that.

At the end of the day, every app is made of a toolkit of pre-built widgets like buttons, lists, switches, etc. The stock “tab bar” component in iPadOS is terrible, which makes it nearly impossible to design a good iPad app with any kind of tab navigation without resorting to just building something nonstandard completely by hand.

This isn't profit-driven bad design. It’s just bad design.

It seems to all be based on their obsession with SwiftUI which seems fairly universally reviled for any non trivial application.

I don’t know if that’s profits or just bad leadership or what.

I know that Alan Dye is supposed to be ultimately responsible for UX and he has had his head up his Vision Pro for so long I don’t think he can see straight anymore.

Hard to believe that the EU can dictate to a company what features they must have on their product. What if Trump told BMW that all BMW’s must have wheels that are interchangeable with Ford wheels, so that a Ford F150 spare tire would fit a BMW M3.
