It's actually more dangerous not enabling more apps into CarPlay. People will use these apps regardless and picking up the phone to select an app, play the audio from a YouTube Video, picking up the phone to select a song or an album by an artist Siri won't find for no reason, etc. is much more dangerous than having hands free options as people will use the apps anyways. Allowing shortcuts to run apps even if they don't show up on the CarPlay screen is FAR safer than someone having to do the same thing by picking up the phone.

So tired of all this AI BS being pushed into everything. Most people don't care (except for some people on MacRumours that love this nonsense).

Go listen to the podcast called "The Last Invention"... and you'll emerge with a new appreciation for the current and future state of AI in our world.

AI is not just about misfiring chat interfaces.

If folks enjoy this or it’s helpful, I’m happy for them.
When I used to drive to the mall as a teenager on a sunny day with the windows down listening to a great song, I never dreamed about someday talking to a chatbot.

This way the crackpots can talk with their imaginary friends while driving. Stories like this one are somewhere between sad and hilarious (and maybe one day legally actionable when we have went as far down the AI rabbit hole as we have social media).

I think the only ones that will survive are the super niche ones you never hear about, like internal-medicine specific companies, or the big companies that have other sources of revenue, like Google.
You mean, like the AI companies that have been around for far longer, learning on focused datasets for far longer, and delivering real analytics for longer than anyone will admit?

I don't think this would be advertised as an Apple Intelligence feature - that would be if they launched their own "Siri Chat".

But yes, Apple Intelligence is a branding not a feature. AI driven photo editing is also being called Apple Intelligence. So I would expect the vast majority of Apple Intelligence features to be small app improvements, until you get to things like Siri improvements.
This truly is an Apple Intelligence feature.

Tesla's currently have Grok baked in, and I actually use it more than I would have thought. Specifically if in a new area and asking for food suggestions. They are quite good.

Have been unable to get CarPlay to read out WhatsApp messages despite the app showing up and notifications work.

I have little faith in these working well either.

I fully agree. There's a lot of hate for this feature saying it's useless or distracting etc. These people have clearly never driven anywhere with kids in the car...
By your own recognition, being stressed (Distracted) out with kids in the car and you are going to add more things to distract you, should be the oposite.

Anti-AI folk are starting to become that joke that everyone says about vegans. How do you know someone is a vegan? Because they tell you again and again and again and again...
This is the first time I have said I wouldn’t be turning on any of a particular AI feature, which is controlled by outside AI. I currently have Apple AI installed on my devices and use it with limited and defined use. Your post to me is misdirected.

I wished I had recordings of the interactions with my kids in the car — I’d rather listen to them than engage with a no-being. I use the long drives to get caught up on my podcasts or indulge in music, I.e. content created by beings.

But this not a comment about quality of engagement & interaction, just about differences in preference.

It's more than it's a general theme on every AI thread at least 5 people on the first page will have to tell you how they definitely won't be using it or how they'll disable it immediately.

That part I agree with. Of course that sort of forum nuance has been from the beginning.

… But nothing is going to stop people from making bad decisions while driving, unfortunately. At least if they use this they will be less distracted.

And this arguably has utility anyway, in the form of asking questions to help guide you and so could actually be helpful.
When I go into town, I have to go through two roundabouts. I can always tell when someone is relying on a navigation system rather than reading the posted signs because they are looking & slowing down. I personally would not navigate with GemClauGPT but I would welcome it if the bots advised the confused slow-downers to look at the signs while doing an extra rotation.
