iOS 26.6 Prepares Your iPhone for iOS 27

Dunno if this is related, but my 15pro max battery life was suddenly terrible from late April ish only to get much better again since I installed the beta. I’m sure there’s no conspiracy at play, but there must have been something going on in the background that the beta has resolved.

Could also be third party apps. My kid’s iPhone had a reported screen time of 6 hours… while she was asleep. iOS just reported it was “Other”, whatever that means. Turns out it was a third party app doing who knows what in the background.

Your response really makes no sense in the context of what this is. The indexing takes days and is atypical of iOS upgrades. This will allow you to use the benefits of iOS 27 immediately.

MAYBE IOS 26.6 SHOULD FOCUS on the bugs in 26.5.2.....like getting locked outta apple account every 2 hrs non stop......apple gets notified everytime this bug happens yet they refuse to fix it. Fixing the notifications bug where they still appear after u clear it

Looking forward to iOS 26.6 and iOS 27. Unlike prior years I will wait to update to iOS 27 until the official release.

Interesting, cause I'm doing the exact opposite. I never use the beta, but this year I'm gonna jump on it with PB2.

The newer Samsung Galaxy phones already have this feature that comes up automatically from the notification banner that says "Finishing Updates " right after a system reboot after updating.

I don't know about iOS 26.6, but the 27 beta tells you that it's happening in the Settings app.

This will all be hilarious once released: before, everyone would whine about how warm/hot their iPhones would get (due to indexing), but now people will now whine about how long it takes (days, since they've slowed it down so much that the iPhone stays cool).

That’s a solid move actually.

I guess it takes some of the friction off of 27 as iOS 26’s reputation good or bad based on an individuals experience is pretty set in stone.

But allowing 27 to start with zero or minimal indexing will be good for a smooth transition.

Although saying that everyone I know ignores the prompts in their settings so they might not even notice an indexing prompt either way 😂

But if no indexing can make Siri slower/ less reliable until complete then doing it in advance is a good idea.

If 27 doesn't allow me to disable Siri / AI on my 16, I won't be 'upgrading'. So 26.6 might be moot, too.

Some days I wish I was still on my 12 Mini running iOS 17, but I bought into the Kool-Aid of how significant the changes would be. Including stuff that still hasn't shown up...
