Starting to think this isn’t actually accurate…

Not only do I not OCLP my Mac, it’s running the factory version, OS X El Capitan from 2015.
got it so you never updated your Macs.

But what if you need to use modern apps? third party alternatives for iTunes with newer iPhone to backup?

yesterday's test iPhone was unplugged, brightness was 40% or lower (underneath my desk stand for my MacBook Pro), and no media was playing in background.

After my battery health went from 100 to 97 within a week (or 2?) I’ve seen this message the first time. German language, not translated yet.
bro that is weird. did you have the setting for adaptive power on? and what iPhone are you using? 15 pro, 16 or 16 pro?

I’m not a heavy user, if I need alternatives I use Windows.

Yeah, for a low to moderate brightness cycle with light to moderate usage it doesn’t look too good. How much screen-on time in a full charge with similar usage did you get on iOS 18?

It’s difficult for me to judge results properly sometimes because most people are heavier users. If I applied my own numbers, practically all results would look poor to me.

7 hours of SOT isn’t that great if usage isn’t heavy, though.

Not so weird at all. It is enabled. Yes. But I’ve never seen someone here who got this message
Oh I see. Did low power mode turn on yet? This particular feature uses Apple Intelligence to make appropriate battery life adjustments based on the usage patterns and battery percentage of the iPhone.

The notification would be on when it kicks in.

Nope. Low power mode was still off.
Had your iPhone battery dropped low yet? The feature works best on heavy usage days.

I don’t use it as I have a charge limit in place.

I understand, I will look through the archives to find out how much SOT I got back in iOS 18… I’ll report back when I get it!

I’ve had it pop a few times now, but I haven’t seen any differences whilst it’s been active.
I guess its the whole idea with the Adaptive AI power feature, it adjust so you won't notice it.
At the same time it’s odd that they make a big thing out of it (with a pop-up screen), but if they didn't they would risk getting sued for throttling performance without telling users.

I think that’s a good way of gauging battery life? Especially since the battery settings interface redesign in iOS 26

Hey, about that! For @FeliApple, I’m going to show you how the battery life is measured and recorded in this beta. I’m kicking off the test right now! As I’m typing, I’ve only lost a tiny bit (1% of battery) since I unplugged about 30 minutes ago.

I started the battery test in iOS 26 developer beta 9 this morning at 10:15 when I got out of the car for school. I’m not touching the charger until I get home! Let’s see how much SOT I can get!

Good stuff! Be interesting to see your results later on 😀

What device?

I installed PB5 on my 14 Pro last week and battery life was particularly bad for a few days before settling a bit. Still worse than iOS 18, I think, but usable. PB6 hasn’t seemed different in the first day.

One nice thing, though, is that Battery Health had previously shown low 80s in the past month, but now shows 79%. So if that sticks with the final release, hopefully I can get a free battery swap under AC+.

cycle count on coconut battery, bro? Yep this beta duked the max battery capacity a lot, my 15 pro lost another 4-5%.

Yes, but it is the same-old issue. It works if and only if you unplug at the beginning of the day without having used the device earlier. Either you unplugged at 00:00 or at, say, 7 am and you haven’t used it 00:00-07:00.

And the cycle must not span two days or more. Apple keeps constraining the conditions for which a simple glance is enough.

Funny that they have always been so absolutely pathetic at designing battery pages that they never quite got it right. How can you be so bad at the only job that that screen has?

iOS 5-11, Apple added “usage time and standby time”. Usage time included EVERYTHING. The system’s background usage was counted just like listening to music with the screen off and just like gaming at full brightness. Good luck. To gauge battery life, you had to ask a million questions: “did you listen to music with the screen off?”

“did you have system usage show up there?” (Or at least, did you notice the usage time ballooning without usage (it happened a lot)

“why does it say “iPhone plugged in since last full charge”?, “did you let it drop to, say, 30 and then unplugged it at 54? If so, it’s adding both cycles together and that number is useless”.

iOS 12-18, Apple finally added SOT, but made it “last 24 hours” instead of “since last full charge”, so it included both on and off-charger usage, so good luck gauging that without screenshots. Also, the SOT number would only be relevant for the first 24 hours. iOS gods forbid a user had a longer cycle, because then you’d have to track it manually. The “last 24 hours” number was the one that shows on the “screen-on”, and people assumed it was since last full charge, and therefore reported garbage. Most users can’t read this graph.

on iOS 26, Apple destroyed everything. The only way I can determine SOT is if you unplug the first time you touch the phone after 00:00, as there is no hourly breakdown and no hourly indication of charging. It’s useless barring that specific usage pattern which nobody follows.

Apple, can you get it right? Once? It’s unbelievable at this point. How can you be so awful at making a graph? It isn’t that difficult…
