Features
Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

Historical beta release chart

Here’s a long list of some issues users had with DB3 that might still be present in the newly released beta and worth waiting on feedback before jumping in if this is your first beta:

  • System Data keeps growing, filling storage and creating excess heat until reboot
  • Audio stutters/skips (both bluetooth stack issues and a possible AutoMix bug)
  • Visual issues (reduced legibility in some areas, items not aligned properly, Liquid Glass skin glitches/artifacts, frost effect applied inconsistently), blur effects might not work right until a reboot
  • Accessibility option Reduce Transparency can cause new visual issues (text selection bubble is opaque, keyboard keys can turn white, etc.)
  • Resprings (i.e. Springboard crashes)
  • CarPlay resprings
  • Safari can become unresponsive and needs force close
  • Bookmarks may rename themselves or reorder themselves
  • Cannot save a bookmark to the Home Screen
  • Haptics may not stop during phone calls
  • Syncing issues with Mail, Messages, etc. across devices, especially when mixed with devices that are not on the betas (e.g. iOS 18)
  • Time sensitive Messages do not autodelete
  • Unknown calls may still go through even when Call Screening enabled
  • Voicemails may be received with no missed call notifications
  • Cannot search Contacts from Phone app in Classic View
  • Viewing contact details may cause the app to crash
  • Alarms may not work when DND enabled
  • Mail.app does not scroll while typing, making it difficult to see the typed message
  • Phone screen may wake unprompted
  • Apple ID password may be prevented from being changed if you have a system password (not passcode) - prompts for a 1-digit passcode and fails
  • Astronomy wallpapers may not render correctly
  • Clear icons may switch to dark icons when tapped (restart resolves issue)
  • Some 3rd party apps will refuse to work and ask you to update your OS or have crashes/freezes/slow performance. See: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-26-working-and-non-working-apps-thread.2458462/
  • And of course, as with all updates, the phone may run hotter, usually resulting in worse battery life and lower peak brightness. Your mileage may vary.
  • Also keep in mind that a lot of stuttering/slowdown during the first 24-hours is usual and not a bug to report.
Not all issues confirmed by multiple beta testers. Summarized from this thread (as well as my own experiences and a few other posts): https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-26-beta-3-bug-fixes-changes-and-improvements.2461142/
