I installed iOS 26 RC yesterday and removed it today. I find the visual presentation of it terrible, the style of the glass elements just is so different from iOS 18.
I honestly think that this might be the change that pushes me over to Android for my phone. I'm shocked at the change in direction Apple have taken.
I'm planning on using iOS 18 until early next year, or until I can't keep it secure because of lack of software updates. Then get a Pixel. I'll keep the iPhone and iPad for my photo management needs as iCloud and Apple Photos are still the best by a long shot (I use proper cameras, only need storage and editing features).
I'm hoping iOS 27 is toned down...if it is, I'll buy next year's iPhone and use it.

Absolutely not. The main reason is Google. They have enough of my data.

Second reason is 99.99% of the time my phone does what I want it to do. I don’t use Siri or that would be like 20%

I have a friend who always buys the latest Samsung flagship phone. She’s a walking advertisement for Samsung and will give unsolicited advice on buying one. I try not to laugh when she’s getting frustrated trying to get her phone to do what she wants it to do.
Apple has plenty of your data as well and are for sure selling it

I think you probably need to do some self-reflection if you think a UI redesign is worth burning your entire platform investment for. The proponents of either want you to be with them because it's self-validation. The marketers for either want to create partisan feelings in you so they can sell you another lie.

Don't play the game. It's just not worth it.

(I use both on and off for ref - they're both absolutely awful)
The UI is how the thing looks. I find it very straightforward that if we don't like how something looks, then we look toward alternatives that look better to us. In this case, Android.
On most fronts, Android is equal to Apple these days, I've used both. Apple still is better, but only marginally. This UI could be the tipping point for some.

This isn’t an airport. We don’t need departure updates

Disagree. I find the viewpoints interesting.

Not trying to be contrarian, just genuinely curious. People were flamed for criticizing IOS 26 because it was only in “developer beta”. Now that it is in Public Beta, it still doesn’t seem ready for prime time. I personally don’t find the IOS 26 design that great.

My question is: will iOS 26 cause you to consider switching to Android?

I"m not going to switch, because they requires purchasing a new device, which I have zero interest in doing...but I'm not upgrading to iOS 26 any time soon.

I put Android and iOS on a pretty level playing field. Wife is a PIxel user, and it's a nice device and OS.

Nothing would cause me to consider switching to Android. I don't like anything about the OS or the products associated with it.

I just tried a Pixel 10 Pro XL. The grass is far from being greener on the other side, and even brown in several areas. I returned the Pixel and will be sticking with my 15 Pro Max another year.
I bought a Samsung S25 Ultra on Thursday. And today I packaged it up to return to Samsung. Back to my 16PM. I couldn’t agree with you more, the grass definitely isn’t greener. In fact there’s hardly any grass on the other side.

I have sold my iPhone 16 Pro Max, because I pre-ordered the 17 Pro Max. Currently using a Pixel 9 Pro XL and the grass really is not greener on the other side. Using it all day, it really shows its shortcomings. In my opinion, even iOS 26 still has a better user experience.

I agree. One UI has come a long way but is nowhere near as good as iOS which is a shame.

Having previously tried a S24, Samsung would be the last Android I’d go to. Love the styling of the phone but the Samsung app bloat and duplication of google apps is the killer.

I’m hoping Apple doesn’t stop signing 18.6.2 before I can install it on my 17 and forget about iOS 26 at least for awhile.

The only way I would consider going to Android is if I were going to install something like Graphene OS and de-google the phone, and right now I just don't have time for that kind of project. I hate how few alternatives there are in the mobile hardware space.
