Let’s see - Apple deploys AI to do something really useful like extending battery life in a way that users will hardly notice or not notice degraded performance and folks on this forum who know nothing about how it works can only trash it? No good deed goes unpunished I guess.

It's a tradition here.

You know, when they can't make an upgrade enticing by making a new iPhone an actual upgrade that's worthwhile and they start putting 3 year old devices in a disadvantage with software, you know things are bad at Apple. No, Apple, I won't buy the new iPhone 17, which is the same as 16, which is the same as 15, which is the same as 14, which is the same as 13, which the same as 12, which is a bit better than 11. Like there's literally no point of buying a new iPhone for your average Joe who used to upgrade every year or every two years. There's just no way in hell an iPhone 14 Pro could not handle some freaking a d a p t i v e power mode when all it does is "slightly dimming the display brightness or allowing some tasks to "take a little longer" to complete.".
All the years of being stingy with RAM has come back to bite them

Apple says this includes slightly dimming the display brightness or allowing some tasks to "take a little longer" to complete.

Wow. The things “AI” is capable of LOL.

If this works as good as Adaptive Charging, I’m fully expecting another big feature to be more of a nuisance than actual value.

We really are in the dark ages of technology. And now instead of tech companies working to make better batteries, we are just willingly giving up our device performance and UX.

Cool cool.

the article, as written by Macrumors, says its AI based.
apple isn't saying it is AI based.
why does Macruomors make this claim ?

I have feeling it will just throttle the processor and dim your screen.
Which could be distracting if you’re playing a game or reading something.

Don't think it's actually AI. It's the good ole CPU throttling "feature," this time with your consent (hence the "use" of AI, so you have to agree to it) and you can't sue Apple for using it.
You do not have to agree to it. User can toggle on and off in settings.

I remember, back when we used to call things like this "algorithms".

I wonder what specifically about it is "AI", as opposed to ML, which is supported on the iPhone 11 or later IIRC.
Exactly. This is not AI, it's a simple algorithm but because most people are clueless Apple can use it to gatekeep new software features behind hardware sales. Not that they haven't always done that but it's a fresh new way of doing it.

Sadly it is not available for older iPhones. Will try it out later and see whether it is of any use.

The article is just describing a single feature in the upcoming iOS update.
Adaptive power seems like it could be a useful feature for some users.

Not sure why so much hate in this thread.🤷🏽
No one is forcing users to use it.

Thanks for the heads up. Turned in on, but I doubt I will notice any difference in real life usage. 🤔

Spot-on. I think it's about some people love and live to be constantly outraged at The Man.

What a waste of valuable time, that could be better used for more productive purposes... IMO.

Just an observation. This board is filled with some truly miserable people, who will complain about anything and everything Apple does. They must carry that same "cheer" to all aspects of their lives...
MacRumors is famous far and wide for its "hate bags", who crawl out from under any and every rock to criticize all aspects Apple. The usual refrain in the wider Internet is "MR, great articles but don't read the comments!" This is why. A free and useful feature to be rolled out from Apple is...excoriated. Strange.

Oh boy. Here we go. This brings back memories of the "Throttling" conspiracy Apple was hit with when trying to dynamically extend battery life on their last models of Intel-based MacBook Pros.

iPhones have had Auto-brightness for the longest time but no one seems bent out of shape over that feature.
When I’m outside and my phone dims cause it’s hot… it’s annoying but I get it. Now it’s gonna dim when I would least want it too even more often. Yep I’m complaining and yes I have auto dim off. I can already see it the phone will slow down because I’m using it fast 🙄. Lastly don’t say no one I speak fir myself as you can see on this forum people have diffrent opinions and there all entitled to them.

I am looking forward to switching the feature off.

It's only going to auto-dim if you turn the auto-dimming feature on. Don't want it, don't turn it on.

So you are suggesting the people who turned on auto-brightness complained about their display automatically dimming? That would be like people who turned on dark mode complying about dark mode being on.
I am looking forward to switching the feature off.
See, easy peasy solution. Don't want the feature, don't turn it on.
