Or just being able to see a playlist as albums instead of just songs. This jumping hoops wouldn’t be necessary if they just allowed us to use folders like Spotify does.
Then you can have a “Driving to Work” folder.
End of story.
Yes, I know all that. It's still stupid to not have a button in the app for easier access. People clearly use the music app a TON to go to sleep. JUST MAKE A DAMN BUTTON!Would be good in the music app, but you can currently do that with the Clock app's Timer section.
You can also tell Siri to "Go to sleep in ## minutes", and it will stop playing then.
Why can I only pin to Library tab and not to the top of the Home menu? When I start the Music app, it always defaults to the Home tab. I would like to pin it there to avoid the additional step of clicking Library first. Is there a way to do that?
Yes. In the settings app. There is a toggle under Library, Add Playlist Songs. As the explanation says leave the toggle off to NOT add songs to your library automatically when you add them to a playlist. There is another toggle there that works the same when you Favorite a song. That's a nice touch.
There's another thing I'd love to (perhaps quite an unusual request). I'd like to be able to add music to playlists without also adding it to my library. Idea being, so I can listen to playlists of something I'm in the mood for... but if I want to just leave my main library suffering, I might not want those particular songs to appear.
Oh! I always thought that was “add to library, but don’t store a file in the library folder on the hard drive”!Yes. In the settings app. There is a toggle under Library, Add Playlist Songs. As the explanation says leave the toggle off to NOT add songs to your library automatically when you add them to a playlist. There is another toggle there that works the same when you Favorite a song.
While we're talking about Music app wishlist items, I really wish I could tag tracks instead of only being able to add them to playlists (which are basically folders). The idea here is that ohne could tag something "mellow" and "instrumental" and "acoustic" and be able to create dynamic playlists off combinations of tags like this.
Yes, I know you can make smart playlists on the Mac, but you can't make them on iOS, and there's no way to easily add attributes like tagging.
I've gamed that field too, with smart playlists, but it still only functions as the equivalent of one "tag".Pretty much since iTunes first became a thing I’ve used the “genre” column for exactly this purpose!
Why only one?I've gamed that field too, with smart playlists, but it still only functions as the equivalent of one "tag".
Oh, I see. That's an interesting way to hack it, for sure! Why only one?
In the genre column you could write, for example “happy / funny / bouncy” and have a smart playlist that is “all tracks where genre includes happy but does not include funny”.
You can do this with a field like Grouping.I've gamed that field too, with smart playlists, but it still only functions as the equivalent of one "tag".
Another great workaround, and thanks for posting it. I may give it a shot. You can do this with a field like Grouping.
1. For example, add "Instrumental, Mellow" to the Grouping field
2. If you want a Smart Playlist to pull from multiple tags, just add two rules saying "Grouping Contains Instrumental" and "Grouping contains mellow".
3. Make sure Match All rules is enabled
