Not sure why people are hating on the "clear" (muted white) look. For someone who wants to be less connected to my phone, I think this is a wonderful idea to keep myself engaged in opening apps.

In my case, it's not hating just preferring the current options; having lived through some 'translucent' interfaces.

Feature 101:
Enabling Liquid Glass turns your iPhone 16 Pro Max into an electric heater.
Sadly it is summer soon.
More like it is Beta 1 of a major operating system release that introduces a brand new design, where things aren't that well optimized yet, and things will improve as the beta cycle progresses. By Beta 4 or 5, things should be a lot smoother, performant, and there should be less strain put on the system.

We saw it with the iOS 7 betas where performance wasn't great, we'll see it again during the initial betas of iOS 26 while they work out the kinks.

WHY does apple keep putting that 'transparent icons' in their product shot. Who is this made for? If you really want to see the background that badly open it in photos.

I am truly bewildered they made that feature.... and then owned it front and center in every marketing shot.

Because its a new option that Apple added that they decided to show off, and that it actually looks nice to likely a lot of people? The people who complain on the Internet don't comprise the majority of people who use iOS.

100?! 🙈

I’m amazed that people have the patience, time, and interest to wade through such an incredibly long list!

Let's see a curated list of the Top Ten!

Or, someone else suggested, grouping them into categories — but even that should be streamlined. I'd like to see, say, 5 categories, with the best 3 or 4 features in each grouping — and why they are useful!

In any case, much appreciate the effort that went into this compilation.

My biggest concern is how well iOS 26 runs — or will run — on older iPhones!

Transparency in the UI absolutely SUCKS. It makes things much MUCH harder to read quickly. It makes it much harder to see what's the primary thing to focus on. What the heck are they thinking???
Respectfully, I disagree. I was briefly on iOS 26 (rolled back because of the performance issues of Beta 1) and I noticed no impact in readability or the ability for me to focus on things. I genuinely believe Liquid Glass is an improvement over the dullness of iOS 18 and earlier.

Also, its Beta 1 of iOS 26, with 8 or more betas to go between now and the final release. Things will get better between now and September.

Messages app can screen messages from unknown senders, placing them into an Unknown Senders folder

What am I missing here? I thought it already did this?

What am I missing here? I thought it already did this?
It does. I’ve been confused by the reports about this feature in iOS 26 as though it’s something new. Unless Apple has enhanced it somehow?

I’m using it on my iPhone running iOS 18.5. You can even toggle whether or not you receive notifications from unknown senders, so if there is an enhancement, that doesn’t seem to be it.

  1. You can now set a custom snooze duration of 1 to 15 minutes in the Clock app

Honestly if there was nothing announced but this I would be happy. Keeping it to an arbitrary 9 minutes probably because of some overflow issue on ancient alarm clock hardware that prevented it from being 10 minutes was really dumb. Keeping it non-customizable for 19 years was insane. Glad some sanity is returning to Apple, but why stop at 15 minutes? Just give us a slider. I often set alarms for things like watering plants or other important frequent tasks because they really get my attention. If I’m snoozing, it’s probably because I’m not home. Would love to snooze it for an hour so it doesn’t keep going off but I feel like I can’t dismiss it, even if they are silent alarms. But I assume this setting isn’t per alarm? That would be unfortunate.

A new "Keep Audio in Headphones" setting prevents audio from automatically switching to newly connected devices, like car speakers or Bluetooth speakers, when you are already listening through AirPods or other headphones

FINALLY. If I’m already listening to something like a podcast on my locked iPhone and then pick up my iPad, automatically switching to that was asinine. So glad this option was added! Should be the default, honestly.

  1. The so-called Home bar at the bottom of the screen is now hidden more often

This is one of those little things that annoys me, and I’m glad to see them do something to improve it. I will have to test it later in my game, Ring Rush, on my iPad which has the beta. I set some flag in the app to hide the home indicator but it reappears every time you tap on the screen to shoot the star out into space. Hopefully that is resolved for full screen apps. At this point most people should know that it still exists there and they can swipe it even if hidden. We’ve survived for many years knowing Control Center and Notification Center exist at the top with no indicator.

Weather via satellite will allow you to receive the latest forecast information while outside of Wi-Fi or cellular range

Now that’s honestly cool, and this feature being expanded is really giving me the confidence to go camping alone in the wilderness for a week with minimal supplies.

  1. On the Lock Screen, the clock dynamically adapts to fill empty space

Hopefully this is an option and not just how it works? Weirds me out.

Hold Assist can wait on hold for you during a phone call, and notify you when the live agent is ready for you

I don’t often need this and most places have call back services but the government is notorious for being put on hold so this is gonna be fantastic.

Call Screening automatically answers unknown callers, and asks for their name and the reason for their call, before your iPhone rings

Again, if they just announced this alone I would be so happy, such a great feature. Automatically being silenced is amazing, and requiring contact info to pick up is smart but I wonder how long until scammers find a way around it by just giving info or making it sound more urgent?

In the Settings app, can now turn off iCloud Drive syncing via cellular data

Hopefully this doesn’t affect things like Notes which doesn’t use much data.

Some of these 'features' are US only, like Apple Cash in Messages. This really ought to be highlighted. Your audience is worldwide, not US exclusive!

Lol, imagine thinking "Liquid Glass" is a feature. That is horrifically ugly and I will never use it. I remember when Apple used to be innovative and could do no wrong. Now they just throw stuff at a wall and hope something sticks.

So I’m still waiting for per-app auto updates. I want the apps I choose to update automatically, and every other app to be manual.

Am I the only one that hates the "unified layout" for the Phone app that combines Favorites, Recents, and Voicemails? How is that an improvement? Right now I can quickly and easily access Favorites or tap to see Voicemails or tap to see Recents. Now it is a multi-step process to click the filter button at the top right. "Simplifying" user interfaces by requiring more steps to access things is a terrible design concept.
