iOS26 is so refreshing. They’ve been making the glass slab for years, it’s going to be awesome. I’m sure the new design language will look amazing combined with such hardware. Using iOS 18 after 26 feels so flat and dated now. The 26 lock screen and spatial photos is just beautiful. Glass notifications, the animations. It’s great!

I had wondered if there was going to be a change in the iPhone design to help this make a bit of sense. Having said that, watching the rapid design changes in the betas tells me that it may not be as well thought out as this article states.
to me all the UI stuff points to foldable devices, in particular I expect a iPad that is also a MacBook... maybe "iBook" name makes a return

let's address the second most important question then: "do we need displays that would wrap around all sides of the device?"

There was no genuine need for the iOS 7 change either. New designs are always marketing.

my iPhone 16 PM is good with the 8 GB ram that I think for the first time since iPhone X I probably won't trade in a 1-year old phone and upgrade to the new model. Battery life still at 100%.

the transition from iOS 6 to iOS 7, which addressed a genuine need for simplified interfaces
A genuine need according to who and based on what? This seems more like a personal preference/opinion than a fact.

oh no... a lot of the time they are needed as the patterns are no longer working

iOS6 was getting to be hot garbage and the iOS7 refresh was a much needed breath of fresh air. iOS7 and iOS26 are a lot more than just aesthetics

Literally anyone that didn’t see this coming when they added the button animations in iOS 18 and the full screen Siri animation didn’t pay attention, sorry.
iOS 26 with its liquid ass Notification Center was an even bigger giveaway.
This ain’t any new revelation.

But I agree. Nobody asked for LG. Apple simply needs it to exist before the next big iPhone so they can tell people it’s even better on that.

Looks interesting as a concept, but in practicality, they're going to have to restrict the touch sensitive surface area to the front of the phone, unless the plan on having it hovering over the palm of your hand. You need something to hold onto without triggering phantom taps. I've enough issues with this holding my 12 Pro Max without the super thin bezels on the more recent models, and it not like I have fat hands or anything.

Let's just get a border free phone, or a screen that just curves around the edge like 1-2mm so it feels like an infinity pool. (While keeping the edges non responsive to touch)

We don't need screens on the side of the unit.

Can't wait for apps with UI elements right on the edge of the phone that are a massive pain in the ass to use.
Did you even read the article?

"...he says he noticed a clear pattern in Apple's design requirements: "You never want a control or container that touches the edge of the screen."

The next big thing will be 3d display without glasses. Mark my words, you red it here in this post first. That's a way more likely use case for liquid design. so many new features go towards real 3d.
Nintendo tried this with the 3DS, and it worked, but lead to eye fatigue and danger for children under 7 and their developing vision.

At least the rendering looks like it would be comfortable to hold for a change… 😉

I suspect that, at least at first, this design will take the form of eliminating the black bezel around the display altogether, so that the display goes right up to the forward edge of the metal band around the four sides of the iPhone, rather than extending down the sides.

Ding ding ding. This developer understood it well. I had a feeling about this Liquid Glass transition as well. Seeing elements of visionOS and on screen UI elements that fade away leaving behind only content. These are both important for flexible OLED tech and future visionOS products.

Can’t wait to see what Apple gives us in the next decade!

Oh man I am still counting down the days to the launch iPhone 17 pro max to replace my 12 pro max. After the long wait, I’am now reading this article and just noticed the word of the day on my homescreen which is not making it easy for me.

Also, McLaren HQ is located in a county whose name is a homophone of a certain (crappy) digital assistant.
