Let's see if the Messages app in iOS 26 supports GSMA RCS Universal Profile 3.0 specifications. If it does (and Google Messages in Android does the same), then the messaging war between iPhone and Android will likely be over.
Chances are good it ships with 26, but it‘s Apple we‘re talking about. They probably do something odd that will annoy us or cause more pain than relief, just like their initial RCS implementation is absolute crap.

I'd almost agree but now that Universal Profile 3.0 with full E2EE was released back in March 2025, I expect Apple to implement this GSMA standard for RCS in the Messages app. Getting Google to conform to Universal Profile 3.0, hopefully that is part of Android 16.0 and the latest updates to Android 15.x.

It is now possible to add up to two languages to one keyboard. I'm also French and have French + English in the same keyboard (important here: it's not the same as having several keyboards, which is also possible). Then when I type, it recognizes the language and the autocorrect works fine. Try it
I can switch to either English or French, the problem is when I write both in the same message or document.

When I use the English + French it's a bit of a toss-up. Sometimes it works, but mostly it'll autocorrect to gibberish.

I'd like to see the contact poster/photo stuff improved.

It's buggy - doesn't always update for people, I don't always get other people's. Some sort of Apple Profile which hooks into iMessage would be good - and you could of course still decide who sees your pic/profile and who doesn't.

I just tried it, no need to switch, both languages are detected and I don't get any issue

do you send iMessage to someone whom you cannot directly communicate with? this is an odd choice.
one of my best friends (long story short) met a woman who barely speaks English. she’s a bit older and she only types in Spanish.

they’ve had their fun lol and he’s over the situation, but he said this would have helped him save time chatting.

How about adding a way to archive message threads? I've wanted this feature for years - every other platform has this.
