This is only meant for RARE access. You shouldn't be giving Walmart your physical card number, ever. But when you need it, it's already in Safari autofill. However Safari can't autofill from Wallet because there is no Wallet app on macOS.
Safari autofill is a separate thing from Wallet. Are you sure you didn’t add them to Safari previously and just forgot? Maybe they changed the setup process and no one’s reported on it but when I added my cards, Wallet scans for Safari autofill cards but not the other way around.Maybe we're talking about different things, but ...
I scanned my physical card details into wallet on iOS 26. They now show in the Wallet "app" on MacOS* and they are automatically all available for autofill on Safari. Going into Safari Preferences for autofill takes you to the afore-mentioned page in System Settings.
One still needs to activate the cards for Apple Pay on the laptop if you want to use them for that.
* Well, under System Settings / Wallet & Apple Pay which Spotlight finds easily enough just by starting to type "wallet"

Okay so that's different than how it currently works. Looks like they merged Safari autofill with Wallet, so that's good. Thanks for the update. The article should've stated thisNo. I add a brand new card to my phone for Apple Pay then added the physical card details.
I waited a few minutes then went to Safari Autofill and it was there.
As I say, on MacOS Tahoe opening Safari / Preferences / AutoFill / Credit cards <edit> takes me to the Wallet & Apple Pay system settings which syncs with iOS.
One can add the physical card details there or in System Settings / Wallet & Apple Pay / AutoFill Cards. They all go to the same place and hence use the same data.
