Indexing is the background processes that happen after a software update, organising data, apps, files & photos etc.

The only heat my Air had was immediately after the update for a short time, no issues with slow downs. It’s now running cooler than the previous iOS 26 versions.

Yeah I have an air (best iPhone ever). I was hoping the settings app would show indexing as per iOS 27.

I know that when I updated to iOS 26 and some 26.x version there was an information screen in the battery submenu that there was post install background processes going on and that the phone might consume more battery. Haven't seen that screen after updating to 26.6. tho, kinda expected to see it in relation to the "iOS27 index/search preparation" that was listed as a "feature".

Agree 100% about the Air! 🤩

For the last few updates I haven’t had the message in settings about indexing etc that may affect thermal performance and battery life.

Ever since I updated yesterday the phone has not gotten hot at all. The reason I asked about the progress bar is because I'm not sure if this indexing is happening or not. Even if it's behind the scenes it means that the phone is working harder because you have this added job on top of everything else that the phone does and that might drain the battery quicker.

If you check in Settings - General - iPhone/iPad Storage, and then go all the way to the very bottom, and then check System Data. IF there's a lot of files being swapped around and things being indexed in the background, this has always been a good reference for me. Normally, although still pretty high (mine right now says 30.97 GB and I've been on iOS 27 for a while), if there was still some background stuff happening this might say something like 80-100 or more GB.. Then after some time, maybe even a reboot and more time, it drops back down to something more "normal".

Right now, it's sitting at 13.17 GB, though like a minute ago it was 11.7 GB. I guess something is happening.
