I drive a regular sports car with a 9” infotainment display, and I loved the new look of CarPlay, however when I drove the bigger Tahoe with the bigger display the “Smart Zoom” gave me a wider display that was more suiting than usual.

When I switched back cars, the smart zoom on the Tahoe display carried over to the smaller car’s display, however, I loved it more on that smaller display because the gui fit better. When I turned off the smart display it zoomed bigger, is there a way to change the size back to the smaller icons? Can i zoom out more manually or is it all automatic? For example the original widget could fit only 1, with the zoomed out display it could fit two widgets side by side.

In my experience swapping cars between my Bronco (13.2" screen), my Ranger (8" screen) and my wife's Kia K5 (12" screen), icon size and number of widgets seems to be fixed to each vehicle. So moving from the Bronco (5 x 2 icons with 3 widget stacks) to the Ranger, I get larger icons in 4 x 2 layout and a single widget then to wife's Kia and I get 5 x 2 icon layout with 2 widget stacks.

I have not seen any layouts carry over from another car/screen/configuraiton. Interesting that your's seems to carry over until you change the Zoom setting. On our vehicles, Zoom changes layouts on the Kia and the Bronco, but not at all on the Ranger.

It’s the first time it happened to me, but I kind of liked the smaller icons on my smaller screen, seeing the smaller player and icons was definitely eye pleasing since all the icons were in one screen!

I don’t know if it’s an iOS 26 glitch but a welcome one. Obviously the next time I started it again, went back to normal. I’ll try to see if it happens again though

How do you enable the smart display? I have a 2024 Silverado with the widescreen display. I know there was talk of GM not supporting this. Not sure if it’s possible but I would really like the wide display. I couldn’t find any settings in the vehicle’s infotainment system.

It looks like the ZOOM option in CarPlay settings has been removed. That seems to imply that you get the "best" layout with no way to change it. And of course, "best" is subjective and, frankly, translates to "We're Apple. We know what's best".

GM won't support full screen CarPlay, at least in the Silverado's and Sierra's. I wish they did because it looks tacky the way it currently displays in my 2024 Sierra.

Edit: There are posts on the r/gmcsierra thread on Reddit where people enabled Developer Settings on the infotainment screen, then messed with the display resolution to enable full screen CarPlay. But beware that it also messed with the cameras and other built-in apps on the infotainment screen by looking all stretched out and cut-off.
