I wish the iPhone X and 8 had support for iOS 17/18. I’d argue the hardware is very capable since the iPad 7 has the SOC of the iPhone 7 Plus and runs iPadOS 18 surprisingly well. People were even able to get iPadOS 18 running on the iPad 6 which only has 2gb of ram and it still ran decently well. My iPad 8 with the a12 gets horrendously slow and hot in some places in iPadOS 26. I’m talking single digit fps and touching the back almost burns to the touch. I’m more worried about a12 iPads being left on iOS 26 than a13 iPhones. Still, I say both should remain supported, just like how a7 devices got iOS 12. Who knows if Apple is willing to take another iPhone 4s on iOS 9 type of risk again.
I literally said forget post #1-18

yeah it does baffle me to an extent why A11 devices never gotten iOS 17 and yes A11 SoC is definitely capable hardware wise of running iOS 17, 18 and even 26 ( although A11 wouldn’t have had supported Liquid Glass in theory like the A8/ A10X Apple TV models don’t).

I would be more worried about the iPhone SE2 being left behind on iOS 26 than even the A12 iPads because of how horrendous its battery capacity is. Even on iOS 13 after a months worth of use the capacity drops to 99% ( happened to me… Twice because I had changed the battery and it happened again).

But the fact that A11 iPhones didn’t get iOS 17 brings out the saying.. don’t buy the original product ( referring to the iPhone X because it was the original iPhone in that form factor) but A11 devices getting the same amount of support as the A9/A9X iPads is embarrassing

The A10-based iPhone 7 tops out at iOS 15 despite iPads with same chipset getting 17 and 18. 🤷‍♀️

Mind, we have very different definitions for "well". Every time my mom needs me to fix something on her iPad 7, I get so frustrated with how slow it is.

I'm actually glad the iPad 6 and 2017 iPad Pros max out at 17 officially as those still run fairly decently. The iPad 6 less so than the iPP.

I did say to forget posts 1-18 meaning do not reply to that irrelevant post that the user made did not forget about them
