Well now that’s interesting. One large capacity broken into two pieces or two large ones? Guess we’ll find out not too long from now.
I can't imagine there's much space to accommodate two large anythings in iPhone Ultra - as each panel stands to be roughly iPhone Air-thin.

When opened (with the bigger interior screen facing the user), the left panel will [I imagine] house the rumored smaller 1,921mAh battery since it would have to nestle in with two screen components for either side of that panel (both the interior-left when open and the exterior screen when closed). With only needing to house one screen on the right panel (when device I open), and even with camera components, I would imagine that side will house the rumored 2,962mAh battery.

While likely not a device that fits my annual iUP (and budget), I am certainly interested to see A) where it's form factor lands B) how they position it in the marketing collateral.

That's the thing though. The foldable is essentially providing your an iPadesque screen in the footprint of an 18 Pro Max. That's the main draw.
I would be on board if it didn’t require significant sacrifices in the form of a base model camera module and losing faceid. That too much of a sacrifice for $2499. At that price there should be no significant compromises.

$2000 might be tempting, but $2499 pushes it into just buy an iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPad mini 8 OLED territory for basically the same price and still keep faceid and 3 cameras on your iPhone.

You really are going to buy a two THOUSAND dollar (or more) iPhone?

😦

Man oh man am I way out of the mainstream these days.

Why wouldn’t you if you see a use for it? For something you get use of daily it really isn’t that much.

Sure I guess?

I mean, if you do the analysis of daily usage, why not $10k? or $20k?

I'm only half joking.

Isn't the "value" there in terms of how much usage we are talking about?

I think folks can find any number of ways to justify basically anything they want.
We have Vision Pro owners who find it "worth it" at $3500+ just for occasionally watching movies by themselves.

🤷‍♂️

Value is based on the use you see for the product, I wouldn’t find it worth it at $10k but some might but at around $2k I do and will buy in as soon as it is launched. In the end money is just a tool to enable the life you want to live so people will value things differently.

Well said!
It just makes sense!

I think Apple should create some ULTRA high tiers.

If they have folks willing to pay $10k plus, they are obligated to take the money from those people.

Is the inside screen plastic or glass? I've never seen bendable glass so I'm guess it's gonna be plastic. So it will feel cheap.
Well, the glass layer is real glass. As Radon87000 says above, it's UTG, which is Ultra Thin Glass, but it's covered with a thin plastic layer. Foldable phones with UTG have been around since Feb 2020, with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

UTG is chemically and structurally real silicate glass, just like a window. The main reason it’s bendable is due to how thin it is. Thicker glass does break when you try to bend it, but if you make a layer of glass thin enough, it’ll bend instead. Foldable glass is about 30 to 50 micrometers thick, which is about 0.03 mm to 0.05 mm, about the thickness of an average human hair or a thin sheet of paper.
