iOS-27-Messages-Text-Field-Setting.jpg
Last year, singer Justin Bieber turned to social media to complain about the placement of the dictation button in the Messages app's text field on the iPhone. Specifically, he said he kept accidentally pressing the dictation button after sending a text, given it shows up in the same spot as the send button.

Apple has seemingly listened to this feedback, as iOS 27 lets you turn off the dictation button in the Settings app under Apps → Messages → Show in Text Field.

This is fantastic. I never have felt a need to start recording audio from the keyboard and it was just a landmine key to avoid.

BTW - Can we all agree that it completely sucks that they buried Phone/Messages off in the pile of all apps in the settings? These really are more top level system components than just any ol' app.

This is the smallest issue I've ever seen someone complain about. You have to hit the area twice to replicate the issue. Not sure why some people get their kicks out of double-tapping single-tap buttons.

This is the problem with Apple lately. Listening to dopes on non-issues along with design by committee. The reason he kept pressing it "by mistake" is because he repeatedly taps the send button after sending a message. The message is sent and no need to keep tapping in the same area like a lab rat.

Yes. Apps like Phone, Messages, and Safari should at least get a special priority section/slot at the top of the apps list.

Unlike most 3rd-party apps, those apps actually have quite a lot of important settings in their Settings app page and I need to access them somewhat frequently. And the only easy way to get to them is to search in the settings app - scrolling through a huge app list to find them is way too slow and annoying!

I know everyone is joking on the Biebster angle, but to be fair, it really seems like they listened to just about everyone’s feedback.

I didn’t think they actually did it, but it almost seems like they had a real person use an iPhone and saw the problems they have with it. Or like they actually read this site and the other places we get Apple news from every day, and took the feedback.

It only just this moment occurred to me that they actually took feedback from the Feedback app, and then I laughed out loud at how ridiculous that sounds.
