Does iOS27 have the ability to display full screen when you plug it into a monitor (not portrait) so you can use the iPhone as a mini workstation (attaching a keyboard and mouse), just like the iPad - a DeX-style desktop mode.

If not, maybe it will be available to the iPhone fold?

This is what I mean, but for the iPhone:

What you're looking for is Extended Display, not Mirroring.

Personally this doesn't interest me, but I just wanted to point out the terminology difference so your issue isn't hidden from others who might want the same feature.

Thanks lots for the comment! But I actually want dumb mirroring - so i could use a larger screen so i can use apps, etc

So this is my understanding:

Mirroring - showing a copy

Extended Display - The monitor becomes a second screen with its own space.

The problem is, the iPhone mirrors but it's NOT full screen and there are black bars around it. If you see the pic in my post, that's a full-screen experience 🙂

Right, but it's also Extended - not Mirroring.

You can see in the photo, that what's displayed on the external display, doesn't match what's displayed on the built-in display. You can move apps to an Extended Display, they just appear there instead of on the built-in.

Mirroring without bars literally isn't going to work, since the aspect ratio of the displays would need to match. And even if you managed to find a display whose aspect ratio exactly matched an iPhone (or iPad) the resulting display would be so over-sized as to be ridiculous.

Yes, I see it's extended and your right with that. I don't see the black bars so I'm hoping this will translate with os27's dynamic sizing features 🙂 I'd get a mini but I don't want to get a mini just for this feature.

I wish it did. I have a full workstation set up at my office just for my iPad. If I could get away with hooking up my iPhone to it and doing the same things, I’d be happy. Though unfortunately my iPhone Air wouldn't support it at a hardware level regardless. I’d be tempted to upgrade to the iPhone Fold just for this feature alone.
