people moan when al isn't available with apple intelligence and will moan that it's here and how they don't want it.

I never moaned that AI wasn’t here with Apple Intelligence. And if others want it, fine. I say enjoy. But I need to be able to turn it off. If I can’t then I will not buy the device nor update to that version of the OS. I mean it. I’m sure Apple doesn’t care what I think and many here will laugh at me for taking this position. But let’s see how we all feel five or ten years down the road.

The Activity Monitor allows the Mac OS user to turn off individual items. The key to the issue is the alphabet soup they use for each item name. I bet none of the key items will start with AI or some easy to decipher letter combination.

So there might be a on/off capability in the OS code, but we in the peanut gallery will not have the knowledge of the location/name/whatever to achieve our desired result.

This whole AI debacle is being monetized as another revenue source, just wait and see.

Control of the people is the plan. I remember in the book 1984 (written in the 1950s) when the main character was critiqued on his pushups which meant there was a camera operated be the government on the "television".

Note that all TVs today have both microphones and cameras......

Given the history of AI agents being fooled into giving up personal information via email analysis, I will not be enabling any Siri access to my text messages or email.

Well seeing as how goog is now imbedded in Siri (🤢), you need to deactivate all Siri/AI access not just email/texts!

Then once Apple removes goog wait a few more years until hopefully all traces of goog are gone for good!

I'm not big on looking for the hidden meanings in Apple promo graphics, but they're using the Swift logo as the main graphic! Could mean that the focus of Apple's approach is providing a ton of Apple Intelligence API's to developers? A super-duper AIKit with Siri hooks? Or???

Having a chat history will be a huge upgrade, I've tried using the "ask chatgpt" for a bunch of random things (tree/plant/bird/bug ID, macro estimation, etc.) But so many times I'll accidentally tap on something, or hit the camera control button and then the question and image disappears into the either.

Considering that Siri has sucked my entire life, the bar is already quite low.
And 100% facts, if SJ was still alive he would have thrown another iPhone across the stage and then fired the entire Siri team a long time ago.

As a 100% Apple only user since 1994, I sure hope that they finally make Siri useable.

I have my doubts tho.

As an Apple user since 1979, I don't like the over-reliance on WWSJD. Anyone who's read the story over at Folklore.org about the disastrous Twiggy drive knows that Steve wasn't immune to bad ego-driven decision making.

Perfect is often the enemy of good. The big problem with Siri and AI in general is that conceptually at its core, AI is a jack of all trades, master of none. The model to look at here is not Steve Jobs, but Akio Morita and the Sony Walkman.

What people are moaning about it being pushed onto everything and being almost forced onto us. Sure if people want to use AI then fine, but allow those of us who don't want to use it a easy way to switch it off. Thankfully Apple does that, at the moment anyway. Microsoft makes it almost impossible and Android while it is possible, it is a pain in the neck to do it.
But this AI stuff is also being pushed into Apps and different devices.

Uninstalling the app maybe not, but i can't see Apple not allowing it to be disabled, unless they want to be like Microsoft.

This is not just a google issue, agents from different vendors have been fooled. AI agents are designed to be helpful which means they sometimes ignore other instructions. Meta is just the latest example. Other examples abound of agents deleting databases when they are not supposed to.

It really is about time Siri caught up with the rest of them. I joked with a friend today that I could ask Siri to teach me how to write a song!! Maybe it will be able to, after this update. Time will tell.

I'd like Siri to be a 'go to' resource. I currently use Chat GPT a lot and am thinking about a subscription. Maybe Apple can keep Siri free for those of all who have spent £/$ 0000's over the years, indirectly investing in Apple's future. It wouldn't be a lot to ask. We are the great faithful one's. My first Apple product was an Apple Newton which I thought was absolutely brilliant and far ahead of its time. It always recognised my handwriting and was invaluable for taking notes, when I worked as a therapist all those years ago.

I live in hope.

I am tired of my Siri watch app interrupting my listening to Audiobooks and commenting on what's been said. Has anyone else had this?

Solution: To do this, create a scene (in which the lights you want to switch off are switched off).

By the way: It is possible to switch off several rooms at the same time ("switch off kitchen and living room")

Never worked for me, and I'm not going to create tons of scenes with various light combinations. I have so many lights in my home!
