I am so tired of all "other phones do this." Yes they do but with the iphone 4 it is a double wammy. Anytime you pick up a phone, your hand/body degrades the signal a bit but with the iphone 4, in addition to this, bridging the antenna causes the signal to drop even worse. This is why people still see the degregation with the bumber. With the bumper installed it is like any other cell phone. The antenna bridging part is resolved.

I hope 4.01 can make some imporvments to keep the bare backers happy; but I will always use protection on my phone.

Exactly what I was going to say. Which is ridiculous. I want the bars to reflect an accurate reading of my signal, not 5 bars for show.

it sounds like ios 4 antenna signals are clocked too slow, increase the wave lengths, add a little R&D and send it out... I see it working..

I think this is why we won't see a iPhone 4 jailbreak until a month from now. They are waiting on Apple to release a minor update to correct minor problems. No point of giving Apple a chance to patch it in the update.

It's already out, they released it on the evening iOS 4 came out.

It will be pretty obvious that a software update is a purely cosmetic fix if calls are still dropped and data signals are still lost.

If that happened I'd be claiming my refund. Here's hoping everything turns out well for all involved though. In the end, Apple and the community both want to be pulling in the same direction. There's just a few things that need to be cleared up first.

One thing I noticed, that when I'm on 3G, something isn't right. Compared to OS 3, OS4 on 3G is slower and acting strangely. I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.

Anyone else notice the same?

How could this POSSIBLY be fixable via software.
When I make a call, as SOON as I touch the antenna notch, the signal drops and neither person can hear each other, and as soon as I let go, we can talk again. Software fix my ass

I don't know if a software patch will fix this, but I'm sure every iPhone 4 has the capability of not having this problem. We got 2 new iPhone 4s and at our house, each one of them has the problem. We were pretty bummed, to say the least. However, when we bring them to a friend's house (who has a 2 cell towers in plain sight), the issue resolves totally. So, it may involve fixing cell signals and not just the phone.

I am so tired of all "other phones do this."

Exactly. If "all phones do this", then why didn't we here the same outcry/complaints with the original iPhone through the 3GS?

I can confirm that the problem doesn't happen when the iPhone 4 is connected to the AT&T Microcell. I have a Microcell and didn't see the problem and was wondering what all the fuss was about.

It is good to know the problem has likely been identified and a fix is on the way.

The problem happens when connected via microcell for me.

The RF performance on my iPhone 4 has been pretty stellar. If a software update comes out that's great for those who are having RF issues.

excuse me, I'm going to chime in and say if you want ANY PHONE, not just the iPhone to reflect the ACCURATE READING of a radio signal, you will see lots of phones with really fluctuating bars. Actual signals in real time are never constant. The bar reading you see on all phones are never a proper representation of the signal. It is just the collective avg normalized to prevent normal people from freaking out.

This is true even Martin Cooper even said that the bars really do not properly represent the signal.

I seriously feel like there must be a bad batch of phones out there....because for the love of god, I can't manage to replicate this problem. I did it once where 1 bar went down from 5 bars to 4 bars, but ever since then I couldn't. I've been trying all day today in different locations, places where bars did go down, other people didn't even have service. I tried palming the whole left side, just putting my fingers right above the two seams...nothing.

I feel bad for the people that are facing this issue because it's really a good phone and it's deterring them from keeping it. Just know that not all iphone 4s are doing this so there should be a fix or a recall coming soon. Good luck guys!

Did I offend you by saying that I want an accurate signal reading?
I'm sorry, I understand why they do it, I'm just saying that I'd rather have an accurate representation.

AI, aka the Apple PR team, is doing nothing but spreading disinformation here. no fix possible, basic hardware flaw

Are you a radio frequency expert or a electrical engineer or a software engineer with actual design knowledge of the i4?

No?

Please ****.

Hey hey there now, up till just last week, they were all petroleum engineers. Takes more than a few days to mail that online diploma!

I can't get it to happen on our two phones either. No matter what Apple does to address it, it won't be good enough for people here, even if it completely eliminated the issues.

Im feelin a little relieved now.. anyone else?

Of course! I just want this thing to work like it's supposed to. EVERYTHING else about the i4 is AMAZING and it was made to work with ios4. very excited ab the phone!

Dude, this is a REAL issue for A WHOLE lot of people. Enough for it to become international news. So stop trying to put everyone in the same bag of trolls and complainers.. I LOVE my iPhone4. It's the best piece of technology I own. I just want to be able to hold it without having to worry about dropping calls. Is it too much to ask for from a $600+ phone? I don't think so..
