A classic high contrast situation here -- both blown highlights
and little shadow detail. Pretty darn good solution with the
new HDR trick.

This thread isn't bringing out the best in folks. I'm excited about this and my "phone" now takes better pictures.

I took this pic out the window at work today. Obviously these are bastardized to fit the upload limits but otherwise untouched.

Here was my test today. I found if I tapped an area where it was darker and it focused there the HDR picture seemed to work better ( iPhone 4):

I think this will work nice when I am in a situation I need it. Looking forward to playing around with it some more.

sure it may improve the regular picture, but it's not HDR which is what they advertise it as

i dont mind b/c the Pro HDR app works fine and i dont mind using it (i actually prefer tapping on a light area then a dark area for separate pics)

i was just showing people what HDR is supposed to look like and not have 1,000 posts about how HDR isnt noticeably different

I don't know if something is wrong with your phone, or if you're accidentally *not* turning on HDR when you say you are, or what, but have you even looked at the rest of this thread, some of the comparison pictures where it actually made a bigger difference than the Pro HDR app you showed? Not to mention the one that proved it WAS, in fact, taking three pictures? Here, just a random shot I took right now (the picture is ****, obviously, but it demonstrates the Apple HDR pretty effectively):

I don't know what's wrong with yours, but that is HDR; real HDR, doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing.

Great pics! I too found tap-focusing on the darkest spot to work best.

it says HDR when i look at the photo so it's definitely an HDR photo

i'll do another test tomorrow in the daylight

Most (70% maybe) of my photography is HDR, i make a decent living from it. I dont really care what the purists say about it, so long as it sells. The 4.1 HDR doesnt look anything like HDR to me, more like auto levels in PS.

if those are your shots...

please tell me where i can buy prints

EDIT:that might sound confrontational. Im not asking so that you can "prove" they're yours, im asking because i may be interested in purchasing some

I agree! I love the first shot. I can see it on my wall already. Again, like previous poster mentioned, I actually appreciate the work here, if prints are available, let me know.

High res versions available at spblat's photostream. My verdict: iOS makes HDR easy and simple and doesn't overdo it. TrueHDR (or another 3rd party app like Pro HDR) is required if you want more control over the result, or want to go overboard with an exaggerated HDR effect.
