Anyone notice that the proximity sensor lights up during a call now? It turns off when you use headphones or the speaker.

Jedi mind trick.....the red light is saying "there is no proximity sensor issue"

Couldn't see it...even in a dark room. But I never had any probs with mine so as long as it works still.

so is it fixed?

Different people have reported mixed results.

Some find that it works MUCH better, but that it isn't "fixed" (in the sense that it doesn't work as well as previous iPhone models).

Others report that it's a little better, but still not acceptable

Others are reporting it's completely fixed.

Some people have found that they experience the problem with 4.1 when they didn't with 4.0, 4.0.1 or 4.0.2

Your proximity sensor doesn't work after 4.1?

I never had proximity sensor issues with 4.0, 4.0.1 or 4.02, but I have seen the screen come on when held up to my ear several times since I installed 4.1

I don't feel it's something I can comment on definitively, as I don't use the phone anywhere near enough.

My previous post was merely relaying the things I've read from other people.

I've never noticed that before! It flashes red for a moment for me when I initiate a call. I can get it to stay on if I move my finger quickly over it.

Forgot to mention, the red light was noticed by others as soon as the GM was released last week.

It is running at a higher intensity (presumably this helps correct the issue).

I notice the glow as well and I am happy to report there is no issue at all with the proximity sensor now! Thanks Apple! :D

Perhaps this means that you can see in the infra-red wave length.

That's surprising. I suppose if that emitter gets more current it could bleed into the visible part of the spectrum. I myself cannot see it with the naked eye, even in total darkness after updating to 4.1. If you have a camcorder with "night vision mode" you can clearly see the sensor's IR LED during a call.

never had any proximity sensor issues, now with 4.1 I notice that the sensor is much more sensitive and it glows red...I can wave my hand over the sensor and the screen goes dark now prior to 4.1 it would only go dark against my ear

I'm surprised more people can't see it. Here's a thread with some posts about it last week:
