duh

it's just to break the jailbreak. obviously. no need for this upgrade, especially if you're not on a verizon phone.

i couldn't go back to an unjailbroken iphone at this point.

Wow, at this rate the jailbreak folks might never catch up

Was thinking the same. These X.X.x updates are usually fixes for jailbroken iOS devices. They usually come out right after an official jailbreak release (4.3.1 was just released) and have some b.s. excuse. Cat and mouse games...

Paranoid?

While they most certainly fix defects that the jailbreaks expose do you really believe that is the only reason for the updates?

People have had and do have issues with the latest release that they would like to see fixed and frankly don't give a damn about jailbreaks.

This. I went to bed last night and my phone was at 20%. Woke up this morning and it was completely dead. Wouldn't even turn on.

Are you serious? There must be something wrong with your battery. I left my phone at 11 percent at 9pm without charge when I fell asleep, I was woken up by the alarm at 6:30 am with my battery being at 4%. Maybe something is wrong with your battery?

I feel that my iPad 2 wifi-only has some connectivity issues. Unless it's in the same room as the router its signal wavers in and out. That didn't happen with the iPad 1.

your phone is defective. none of mine have done that.

or your left a GPS app running or such.

I actually do believe Apple has some power related bugs in 4.3, possible related to Safari. However as you pointed out it is very easy to leave a battery draining app running these days. So people shouldn't jump to conclusions.

This does peak my interesting in on form, I'm wondering if the same people with battery problems are also the same ones that where so hot for multitasking? I'm one of them frankly, but have come to realize that quoting apps goes a long way to saving your battery. Especially apps that might keep threads alive in background.

What is crazy (cause I experienced the crappy battery life this weekend) is there shouldn't be applications continuing to run in the background. After ten minutes backgrounded apps should be suspended. In my case rebooting seemed to correct the issue. It goes to show that, unchecked, multitasking can be a major battery drain. Apple needs to make it more obvious what is still running.

Yep, that b.s. excuse of fixing bugs and security exploits. I just hate it when Apple fixes things. [/sarcasm] Every method of jailbreaking exposes a security flaw that could also be exploited by other software. Considering my phone has my private encryption key and certificate along with other sensitive data, I appreciate Apple continuing to plug holes as they are discovered.

And after you jailbreak there is a patch for that flaw, although I see your point. However, the security breach is so difficult to locate, it takes serious time and experience by Comex and the jailbreak team to even find it. I highly doubt the average hacker would be able to narrow it down, if so there would be much more from the jailbreak community, as in many more hackers. In essence, without the development team it may be a stretch to state this "vulnerability" is prominent enough given the difficulty from full times jail breakers.

Paranoid?

LOL No, I used to work for Apple (retail then corporate). Believe me when I state, it's not paranoia, it's always been a game of cat and mouse. Now that jailbreaking iDevices is "legal" (aside from Apple's stance on warranty), Apple has been increasing focus on stopping the team (even as far as to request that Toyota pull it's jailbroken app ad campaign). Jobs likes his control. Besides, as I stated, if these exploits were so easy to catch, then there would be a lot more hackers getting into millions of iDevices instead of 3-4 guys spending hours a day for weeks with years of experience to find one exploit. While some people "may not give a damn about jailbreaks," there are millions of others who do. Almost everyone I know (including me) likes to use their iDevice to its full capabilities. These minor issues small iOS IPSW's may address are hardly enough of a reason for the vast majority of owners to risk losing a jailbroken device. Aside from this fact, again, I'd like to see these security exploits discovered had thee not been a 24/7 dedicated jailbreak community.

So no, it's not paranoia, it's history and great PR from Katie Cotton. :)

They are really merging the currently separate Verizon 4.2.6 stream with the GSM 4.3.1 stream??? Somehow doubt it. Too big a gulf to bridge?
