MacStories reports that it has heard from a "reliable source" that Apple is planning to release iOS 4.3 to the public on February 14th at its typical iOS software update time of 10:00 AM Pacific Time / 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
According to several reports surfaced earlier this week, Apple is targeting a release of the next major iOS update, version 4.3, in two weeks. We just got word from a reliable source that iOS 4.3 should be available on February 14th at 10 AM PST.
A growing list of rumors and speculation have suggested that the iOS 4.3 launch, and possibly an introduction of the next-generation iPad, could occur within the next two weeks. Among the pieces of evidence are AT&T rolling out support for personal hotspot service with modified data plans for tethering as of February 13th and free access to The Daily running out in the middle of that week. iOS 4.3 includes support for personal hotspot functionality and the in-app subscriptions that will be required for The Daily once the free access period ends.

Apple vice president Eddy Cue noted during the introduction of The Daily earlier this week that Apple will make an announcement soon about bringing in-app subscriptions to other publishers. It would obviously be appropriate to make such an announcement right around the time of the iOS 4.3 launch given that those capabilities are included in the update. But it is unclear whether Apple will hold a dedicated media event to show off the new in-app subscriptions (and possibly offer a preview of the second-generation iPad) or simply issue a press release coinciding with the software release.

The only thing I'm really hoping for is AT&T to support Mobile Hotspot usage on the iPhone... and not charge an extra $30 for it! ok, so that's 2 things..

Oooo. Third party apps with AirPlay. Could this be a way for Hulu Plus to come to Apple TV?

I think I want an Apple TV, but lack of Hulu/Hulu Plus is currently holding me back. This wouldn't be perfect, but better than nothing!

Apple is pushing Valentines sales for the current iPad. I'm still not believing these rumors of the iPad 2 being announced anytime soon.

I can't wait till 4.3... well mostly just when 4.3 is jailbroken so I can upgrade from 4.1! (I'm skipping the 4.2.1 if I can).

4.2.1 is a GREAT update from 4.1 AND it's jailbroken... i would just got to 4.2.1 as it will be a while before 4.3 is available jailbroken and the cydia apps stable for 4.3 anyway.

Anyone else wonder why no rumors on iOS5 yet?

because there is no beta, no "leaks" from apple and nothing to find from devs who downloaded the beta with little goodies apple put in there to be found like prod device names to build hype for an upcoming release

Huh? Last I checked the jailbreak for 4.2.1 was a beta, and not fully stable, and there were still some cydia apps that didn't fully work with it....

So, most people have held off and stuck with 4.1. I'm hoping 4.3 brings a stable jailbreak, i've heard rumors they were waiting for 4.3 before releasing the next best jailbreak. :)

I guess for an ipad 2 announcement.

That being said, even if they announce it's still prob going to be 6-8 weeks before the thing starts shipping.

I agree. I'm thinking we'll only see an announcement for it in late February. (Even then, I'm wondering if that'll be the case because of the possibly huge amounts of Valentine's day returns that may come in under the deadline).

I'm thinking that 4.3 will allow Mobile Hotspot for the iPhone on AT&T. As for not charging for it, I wouldn't hold my breath. But that's just another huge reason to jailbreak!

Please, please, please

Can anyone (running the beta, not idly speculating) tell me whether the WiFi hotspot is enabled on the iPad. This is crucial to us for upcoming purchases.

In-app subscriptions are already supported, no software update required. You can already subscribe to the daily (although obviously doing so before the free two weeks are up is a bit pointless!)

Not that this means iOS 4.3 won't be released soon, with all the dev betas it's clearly coming, just that the in-app subscriptions for the daily aren't relying on it, so the 14th isn't a strict deadline Apple have to meet.

No, there is no hotspot functionality for the iPad.

Just kidding. I have no idea. :p

Bad news...

Major releases of iOS are in the March-April timeframe. Off the top of my head (so I could be mistaken): I believe iPhone OS 2 was announced March 6, 2008 (alongside the SDK), iPhone OS 3 was announced March 17, 2009, and iOS 4 was announced April 8, 2010. Also of note, it is very rare for information about major iOS updates to leak. The only time I recall it happening was Kevin Rose leaking that iPhone OS 3 would be getting copy and paste. So while it is too early for us to be hearing something anyway, it's very unlikely we will hear a leak regarding iOS 5 before it is announced.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I doubt we will see the second generation iPad announced before March. Besides, I highly doubt Apple will want to hold a press conference that competes with Valentines day.

I've got some bad news for you. The iPad cannot act as a mobile (wifi) hotspot under iOS 4.3 Beta 3. Sorry.

A new version of greenpois0n was released last night that supports 4.2.1. It is known that Apple has fixed the exploit it uses in 4.3, but it's nice to upgrade from 4.1.
