I just purchased the $99/year iOS developer kits so I could test out iOS5. I am still waiting for the confirmation via email. At a bit of a loss however, where and how do you download the iOS5 beta?

I bought a DEV Kit as well today and waiting for the conformation. I have a PC and got all the links I need but hope I don't have to use X code to register my UDID.

you guys dont need to d/l the xcode...its 4 gigs.

just update to itunes 10.5 beta

and get the ipsw to fit your device.

then just connect to itunes and click option + restore and point it to your ipsw file. and watch the magic!

Then how do we register our UDID's? is it done on Apple's Website? (if we have paid for a DEV kit)

If you don't know how to install the beta/register the device. Then you REALLY REALLY shouldn't be using the beta. It's for devs for a reason.

I'm in a similar boat - waiting for my confirmation email from the iTunes store. I don't mind paying the money for a year to do it legit - besides, i've been thinking about writing an application for work.

snagwell....you a medic in san diego?

Why are you folks purchasing the dev kit if you have no intention in developing?

yeah i am. you guys still waiting on your login info?

Right.. I'm sure this will make a few people chuckle..I've been holding out paying the $99 for a while but the release of iOS 5 beta sucked me in!

I'm planinng on developing for a new role, so I coughed up the $99, downloaded itunes 10.5, iOS 5 beta, installed it on my iPhone, re-started connected to itunes and ... BANG... spot the missing step..

I hadn't registered my device UiD! Doh! iTunes message - Your device is not registered etc..

Has anybody been STUPID enough to do the same? If so, can you still find out your device ID using Xcode? Or another way? Or.. have I got a permenantly bricked iPhone? Or is it bricked until iOS 5 goes live and I can use the activation servers?!

I'm currently waiting for xcode to download, but i've got another 2 hours of waiting left, and I don't know if that will even work?

And before some of you get on your high horse about "you shouldn't be using a beta if you don't know what you are doing"... Very true, and I'm in a poop situation, but we all have to learn somehow right, and I definately learn from this lesson. :)

I just had to renew my account and i still cant get it in. Hopefully soon.

You should be able to find it in XCode:
Go tho Window > Organiser and then select your iPhone ;-).

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this should work.

...
Solved it myself...
System Profiler > USB > Find iPhone and the serial is there. Add this to devices on developer.apple.com and it worked straight away..
Few!

im having a slightly different problem. i added my iPhone 4 UDID under my devices, but when i clicked submit it said it was already added. it doesnt show up under the manage devices tab but it shows up as "ADDED" under the history tab. however with my iPad I did the same thing but it shows up under manage. anyone have any idea?

Ok, got the acceptance email. Where on earth do you register udid then? I been looking for like 45 min and cant find it.

Ok, I think I FINALLY got it.

The process for those wondering is:
  1. Purchase dev kit if you do not already have
  2. Register device (http://developer.apple.com/ios/manage/devices/index.action)
  3. Download beta iTunes
  4. Download the appropirate .ipsw file (found in the iOS dev center)
  5. backup device
  6. Hold down option (shift on Windows) then click on restore under summary for your device in itunes, select the .ipsw file
  7. It will restore to the beta, then restore to a previous backup to get files back

Hope that helps,

Anyone install this on the Apple TV2 yet? How do you even do it? Normally it pushes updates OTA to it.

I'm seriously considering doing this as well... i'm desperate for iOS5. I get so many freaking texts all day they just pile up or interrupt me...
