So you take Facebook and ripout every feature other than your own wall feed and call it twitter? I just dont understand the allure of twitter. there better be a way to disable/REMOVE this. the thought of my phone's CPU cycles or screen pixel drawlings being wasted on anything twitter angers me.

*yawn*

Twitter: the ASUS of the social media world. It's cute how they try, but when it comes down to it, their bizarre functionality just doesn't serve the users very well.

Funny, I am the complete opposite. Most of the pro's (in my field) I follow just have auto-updating spambots posting constant updates. That and every time I get @ replies from someone "famous" I just end up with 20 more spam tweets I have to manually block.

Facebook on the other hand allows me to keep regular contact with friends, family and colleagues all over the globe.

I'm the opposite because I find Facebook useless since you need to "friend" people you already know before you can really do anything with them.

Twitter, on the other hand, is useful constantly. I was going to an attraction on Sunday that I knew would be busy. (And was an hour drive away.) I searched and found someone on Twitter who had tweeted about being in the line. I asked him how long it was and he told me "about 30 minutes."

So I felt safe that it wouldn't be a super-long line and I decided to go.

Google can't tell me that. My aunt on Facebook can't tell me that. E-Mail can't do that.

Twitter is an incredibly useful tool for learning real-time information that no one else has. How people can dislike that sort of utility really does confuse me.

I wonder if we'll see something like a "Social Center" if we're thinking along the naming scheme of "Game Center." An integrated one-stop app that unifies everything in an Appleish sort of way...

Like the Youtube features I doubt your phone will be calling Twitter unless you tell it to. It isn't like they're forcing you to get an account.

I think the issue here is that Twitter is somewhat bass ackwards compared to a lot of social interaction. Most people are not comfortable with talking to random people if they overhear something interesting. Your example was great in this regard. You contacted someone you didn't know to ask them about some random thing they told the entire world about. This system requires people to be extremely liberal with sharing relatively useless information as well as being okay with talking to these people if that thing is interesting.

Think of it like this. It would be like coming here for technical support and instead of posting your question you find someone who talked about repairing their own computer and ask them for help. It is effective, but backwards from how we usually approach things (essentially, it requires more effort).

Id rather have it go to facebook. Who wants twitter?

Facebook probably wants all the info Apple has about you for that deal. I'm not comfortable with that.

Cool, I guess! The Twitter app is already quite good and saves photos to the library as well as uploading.

i hope we r getting those rumored widgets so i can have my latest facebook updates and twitter feeds always waiting for me without having to open the actual app first (and no, its not battery consuming + u have to charge it every night as it is anyway so who cares), and yes i'm damn serious. the huge lockscreen has been useless for too many years already

Yes, I think so.

I've always said that Facebook is for liking people you know and Twitter is for hoping that total strangers like you.

I think people's personalities go one way or the other. If you hate public speaking or making a scene in public then you're probably more into Facebook. If you want to be a stand-up comedian or are someone who talks to strangers all day long then Twitter's probably more your thing.

I meet a lot of people who really like one or the other. Very few are in equally in love with both.

Yeah, honestly I probably would be all over Twitter if it came out in my formative years. But all I had back then were message boards so here I am.

Now get off my lawn!

So can I throw a wild guess out there that Apple will use Twitter as a basis for an instant messaging service, similar in function to BBM, using Twitter's Direct Message system plus the new photo service?

Plus you get to text other public Twitter ids.

Could work actually.

Twitter and Facebook are only as bad as you use them to be.
It's how you use Twitter which matters.

I use Twitter to speak with developers, news anchors, news stations. I don't interact with them because I like them or anything.
I use it to be informed about a huge variety of topics, daily. I use it to share news with close friends and family. The potential is amazing, don't be blinded by the tweens who speak with celebs or tweet about how they just woke up from sleep and don't know if they should brush their teeth or not.

Twitter is a very valuable resource for education and information, if you're following the right people or organizations on Twitter.
I learned about this news post because i'm follow MacRumors on twitter! Otherwise i wouldn't have visited this site until WWDC.

Mind you, i'm barely on Facebook anyway.

It IS possible to select for what reasons they email you. For instance you can turn off all emails from Facebook. Quite handy.

Doing this achieves the same objective, but whilst still being tagged in the occasional nostalgic photograph. Win win.

I was going to say it's not really spam if you selected to have them email you about updates. If you turn everything off you wont get any emails from all those pesky people trying to communicate with you lol

That truly is the issue with Twitter. Most Twitter traffic is personality cult BS. Essentially, most people are using Twitter incorrectly. Which is kind of funny when you think about it. Anyway, I chalk it up to inexperience with social interaction on the net that will hopefully be corrected over time.

I think we all know why.... Apple and FB have been in feud for some time.

Facebook is clearly going with Microsoft for Windows Phone and little else. No surprise since MS got their investment in them quite early.

I'm going to be highly annoyed if they include this but not Facebook. Droids have had direct integration with Facebook since day 1, yet something as simple as sending a photo to Facebook requires either a tedious process, or buying a 3r d party app like Camera+ to send your photos to Facebook..

I also hope if they have multiple options like Twitter and Facebook that we can "opt" out of those we don't use, like Twitter, so my screen isn't littered with a bunch of buttons for services I don't use...

God how i hate all this social BS. Like there are no other pressing matters to attend.

This "social BS" needs to be addressed at some point.

Twitter is HUGE. Its integration can only be useful.

Rest assured, Apple's also attending to "other pressing matters." I'm told there are several people developing iOS. ;)

They're pushing Bing Facebook integration hard too.

I think it will be very interesting to see what happens if Ballmer really is kicked out since this sort of stuff is really bleeding Microsoft. (I use Bing because I'm frankly tired of SEO junk results spamming up Google result pages so don't take this as be being biased one way or another.)

Do you really think Apple will set it up so that you must use twitter? How could your phone even go out and gather twitter information on a regular basis like you are suggesting without you first entering twitter account information?

If you decide not to use mobileme does your mac get bogged down checking an idisk? No.

It will be an option for people who want to use it.

As for twitter itself, I don't really use it but I can see possible uses for it. If you had to travel and your family wanted to read your quick comments. It would be faster to post small comments than to compose email. But otherwise I can't see checking the tweets of people I see everyday or famous people just to find out they are shopping or doing laundry.

Yeah you're right. But good thing is that you don't see what these tweens, or anyone in general tweet about on your feed, unless you're following them (kinda like friending someone on Facebook).

Although i don't think Twitter can replace messaging boards like this. It's just not the same and it never will be. Twitter is useful for it's own purpose.
