Hey all,

I'm running iOS 6.0.1. and I have a developers account so I can access the latest beta of iOS 6. I haven't bothered to give it a try on account of it not being worth installing, until now. (iTunes Match swipe to delete!)

If I was to upgrade my iPad/iPhone/iPod to the beta's and then back up running 6.1 will I be able to restore for my 6.1 back up at a later date?

I only ask because I recall reading an article/thread a while back saying that if I backup the betas it won't let me restore from them at a later date AND when I install the GM of the upcoming iOS I will have to install as a fresh install (thus requiring my backups).

Can anyone shed any light on this whatsoever?

My advice from experience is:

Backup on 6.0.1 to icloud and iTunes.
Turn off icloud backup (so it does not try to backup when on 6.1)
Make a copy of your 6.0.1 backup and keep it safe (maybe on the desktop)

If you update to the beta you will still have backups from 6.0.1 should you need it. When using 6.1, you can backup in iTunes, but it will most likely backup over the prior backup on 6.0.1 (hence making a copy)

When you finally upgrade to the 6.1 GM you can indeed restore from backup using either the 6.1 beta backup or 6.0.1 backup.

If you backup to icloud with 6.1 beta then you need to restore to 6.0.1 (should there be a reason), you cannot use the 6.1 backup to restore if the device is running 6.0.1 - as It was made using 6.1 which is newer than 6.0.1

Just make sure you keep a copy of the 6.0.1 backup somewhere safe and turn off icloud backups until the GM comes out.

Hope that makes sense (a little confusing I know!)

Just remember, 6.1 beta 2, is indeed beta software. Things can go well for one person, but the next person have god only knows what problems. If the phone you are about to put it on is your primary phone, not a test or development platform, you could easily brick the phone, converting your phone to a very nice paper weight. If it is your primary phone I would wait till the GM is released.
