Does this mess up your iDevice if you're not a dev?

Are you able to update from the device itself?
 
From what I understand, you'll be able to update to the iOS6 over wifi when it's released.
 
Beta-1 seems pretty darn stable but the next beta could be different.

This is the first iOS beta where updating from the device was even an option so who knows.
They did a few OTA delta updates during the iOS5 betas but as a rule, most of the updates were done via beta versions of iTunes. Pretty much every new iOS5 beta had a corresponding iTunes beta that was needed in order to install it.
 
I would not install on a production device. There are plenty of issues with beta 1
