can't watch embedded youtube vids with iOS6

After experiencing this problem with iOS6 on my iPhone 4S, I decided to hold back upgrading my ipad2 to iOS6.

However I've tried this (slightly tedious) method and it works on my iOS 6 upgraded iPhone 4S.

In addtion to clearing cookies and data, load the web page on your iphone (with the embedded vid that you wanna watch) , then open up the separate Youtube App. Click on any video there. Let it load and play.

Once it starts to play, I'll quickly (without stopping the video) double click HOME button and go back to the website and click to play the original (intended to watch) video there. It works for me (sometimes gotta try a few rounds)

See if the above helps you too.

works here, just tried a youtube video on a friend's site...
will it matter if you install the 'official' youtube app, or jasmine (which i prefer)? since i have that installed...

when i hit youtube videos on sites, it opens up in the new official youtube app for me.

Edit: although some are deliberately set to not be viewable on mobile devices, so that's the only problem i have had. it looks like some people on here are on the main youtube site, not m.youtube.com which is, i think, why they are getting the install flash message

When using the object embed method, which has been used since the beginning and is the recommended solution in Mobile Web Design for Dummies, among other places, the user experience has gotten MUCH worse in iOS6.

Prior to this release, the web page would scroll down, the video would play in high quality format where the bandwidth supported it, and the web page would come back with the embed intact.

In iOS6, the video takes longer to start, plays only in lower quality, and when it plays through to the end and comes back to the web page, you can't play the video again, the placeholder is frozen. This is the case for both YouTube and Vimeo embeds, actually, although the higher-quality video still works with Vimeo embeds.

I have reported this as a bug using the Bug Report webpage, let's see what happens. Very disappointing to see Apple degrade the user experience and underserve its customers over what essentially is a corporate spat with Google. I know the Maps screwup affects way more users, but for those of use who depend on a good embedded video experience within our web apps, this really stings.

embedded vids play well for me in both Safari and Perfect Browser

Step 1: Open the Settings app and go to General > Restrictions

Step 2: Ensure that the YouTube app is set to On.

Step 3: try to view a webpage with an embedded video.

Easy fix to view YouTube videos on TV

I had the same annoying problem (iPhone 4 with ios 6.1.2), but just found a very easy fix :)
1) Go to App Store and install the Perfect Browser App
2) Open App, click settings and scroll down to "Select Tab for TV Out" (Perfect Browser just added this functionality a week or two ago)
3) Top right hand corner of the browser you'll see an area to search YouTube...just type in whatever video you're looking for...

Once you've found the video, just click play (as normal) and voila...because you are viewing in TV Out mode, whatever you're watching now displays perfectly on your TV with full sound... Nice. ENJOY!! :)

Note - when you close down Perfect Browser it will automatically return to normal web mirroring mode, so you'll need to select TV Out again next time you want to watch videos on your TV.

Email and Facebook with embedded youtube link takes me to official youtube app. :apple:

Yes that's right Badrottie, they will because both email and FB are programmed to open up the official YouTube app...but you can get around that...as follows... ...to avoid that problem you need to paste the YouTube link for the video into the Perfect Browser YouTube search and then you will view the video inside Perfect Browser, which you can configure TV Out (as described in my previous post).

I guess it's more like "1) Go to App Store [and purchase] and install the Perfect Browser App"

I know all about apples severed ties w/ Google, and yes, I have the new YouTube app which is great as a standalone. But I've noticed that when I'm on forums or websites in Safari where there are embedded YouTube videos, I can't view them anymore. Previous to iOS 6 it would then start up apples YouTube app to play the video. When I click play now I get a message telling me to install flash.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a remedy? It would be a real bummer to no longer be able to view embedded YouTube vids in safari anymore...

Wow, I've never gotten that. Every time I click on a YouTube video, it automatically goes to the mobile YouTube site. I wish there was a way that I could configure YouTube videos to automatically open in my McTube Pro app.

Hi C DM - I'm sorry. I have nothing whatsoever to do with Perfect Browser, I have no interest in whether you buy it or not. I downloaded it a long time ago and keep no track of what apps I got free or paid for. I only tried to help by making a suggestion how to fix the problem. My goal was only to help, not to try to save a few bucks. I hope you find a solution that satisfies you. Kind regards, S1000RR-

Could be wrong, just throwing it out here, but wondering if the problem is because you don't have the new YouTube app installed from Google?

Quality of embedded videos on IOS6 is RUBBISH, maximum 480p. Where is the hd button! Damn apple, always breaks stuff that works!

YouTube won't play on iPad

I've tried the app as well as playing YouTube through the chrome browser and nothing will play. I've reinstalled both and no changes.

I don't get any error either. Thoughts?

Embedded videos worked on my iPhone until a few days ago. Now they've stopped working. What's going on? I see the preview but when I click the arrow, it goes black and never plays. I don't believe there's been any OS or YouTube updates.

They work in the YouTube app but obviously that's not going thru the Safari browser.

They also work on Safari on the Mac.

Probably something done to the YouTube backed for embedded videos, have seen it happen before and it resolved after a day or 2
