One of my favorite features by far!!! I hated the fact that exchanging messages would constantly vibrate. Now in 7.1 the vibration is much more soft when you are in the Messages app like the vibration when getting a notification when on a call.

are you on b2? If you are within a text thread and they text you while the thread is open then the vibrate is much less pronounced. Similar if not the same as when you're on a phone call and receive a text.
At first I didn't like this but it has now grown on me and it is a lot less intrusive, especially at night if you are texting and you don't want to wake your partner.

I really hope that Apple doesn't consider this a bug and put it back. That long vibrate while I was sitting there looking at the conversation was rather annoying.
I've also noticed that when the phone is unlocked and in vibrate mode that notifications don't vibrate, which I also like.

Yup same reason why I like it so much. I like the little details Apple has added to iOS 7.1
