I'm not sure, but I read it as in some changes will be so extreme that people will either hate it or love it, no middle ground.
I kinda take it to mean that as well. Some will hate it and others will love it as in polarizing views? If they know that going in though, hopefully they will have a setting for "Classic" view??? Is that even possible in iOS7? Can't wait for tomorrow now!

Apple have always been polarising. That is why we get so many Android trolls here. Their hatred of Apple is stronger than their love of Android, so they spend their time on Apple forums.

I don't think we're going to see "flatness" in the UI

That banner is definitely lacking in flatness.

Is Gruber an "analyst?" Because this seems like something an analyst would say.

"I can't verify any of this, but my guesses are more right than everyone else's guesses."

Read the article, mang. It's not him "guessing". There's little birdies in Apple which sometimes tell him little things, and this is one of them.

Of course he can't verify it, because he only knows what the little birds tell him, but he's not pulling it out of his ass.

Note that he only mentioned that "all the leaks were wrong" in an offhand remark in a 1h 30m podcast, and he never wrote about it or otherwise mentioned it due to its lack of credibility and particulars.

Bet the company moment

We will finally see how Jony Ive makes the transition away from industrial design.
If he eliminates usability just for aesthetics, Apple will be in deep trouble.

They have to get this right. iOS (and the iPhone) have been a success because the environment is very usable in many situations.
That is why it has been so broadly adopted.

If iOS becomes a design experiment, it will literally kill the whole reason for broad adoption.
Usability is a multi-version, multi-year relationship between Apple and its users.
It's what leads to such high repurchase and customer satisfaction scores.

Getting rid of Forstall may have been what top management wanted, but when you set up a total break with the past, you usually get it.

face/eye tracking pseudo 3D? hence the perspective matrix of dots?

Polarizing? I know what it means, but can someone explain how it's used here?

po·lar·ize [poh-luh-rahyz] verb, po·lar·ized, po·lar·iz·ing: to divide into sharply opposing factions, political groups, etc. The controversy has polarized voters into proabortion and antiabortion groups.

As I see it, this could be one of two things -- iOS 7 will be a small update largely the same as iOS 6 (one extreme) or a HUGE update with everything we've all been waiting for, a complete overhaul from previous versions.

I can't tell you how much I'm crossing my fingers it's the latter.

I love that we barely know anything about this keynote, it makes me so much more excited! :D

Gruber is a semi-interesting blogger that usually writes about Apple content, or about design in general. However, he occasionally puts up ridiculous political posts that are pretty lame. He also was a co-creator of the 23,202th "to do list"/"notes" app written for iOS. Shortly up his pipeline is a flashlight app and a tip calculator.

It sounds like there are some radical changes here. We'll know in about 27 hours once we see all the nasty posts saying how Apple has lost its way. A few hours later, cooler heads will prevail and we'll probably notice that a lot of the changes make sense.

I'm not really excited at all for once.

Sure I'll watch, but I dunno. I haven't really been following rumors at all this year. Or maybe there just weren't that many rumors to follow. All I e heard is:

- possible iradio
- revamped flat iOS 7
- maybe osx 10.9
- skus hinting possible updated macs, etc

Actually maybe that's quite a bit but no spoilers. Also with apps and such needing to be updated. At best there may be a dev only release for iOS 7 / 10.9.

True, though Macalope has mostly been a "bash the Wall Street Analysts" column as of late. He should probably expand his scope a bit.

That's why I stopped reading him. I wanted his "Apple" view...not his political.
