The app icon looks to cartoony and colorful, A sense of a simple flat design in the apps icon is very noticeable but it just looks bad on some of the icon. Especially safari with the white background and image in center. It looks too colorful and with the cheap icon drawings, it leaves a sense of a cheap app.

Messages: perfect
Calendar: perfect
Photos: Don't like the multi color palette but I can get used to that.
Camera: seems meh
Weather: Too cartoony
Clock: Meh
Map: Meh
Videos: whats with the green and blue? again too colorful. WHY blue and green for a videos app? Looks tropical or something.
Notes: ugly colors and icon design
Reminders: same with this as well, looks way to simple.
Stocks: I like the black
Game Center: Colorful Bubbles really?
Newstand: Looks stupid with the white background. looks cheap
iTunes Store: Now this is more like it and what I expected in flat design.
App Store: Same with this. Perfect.
Passbook: Meh
Compass: I guess I like it.
Settings: Okay.
Phone: What I expected
Mail: I like it, what I expected
Safari: WTF!!!!!!
Music: expected.

Now I am just ranting and I'm sure that it will probably look better in person but from looking at the photos now I would have to say I hate most of the icon design from Jonny Ive. But as for the transparency I think Jonny nailed it with the look he wanted to give.

Please give me your opinions on all the stock app designs.

WHAT WAS APPLE THINKING.
I think the app icons will be tweaked, but I hope Apple just changes the four listed above. They're atrocious.

I'm wondering, if they really wanted to make a break with tradition and look different from Windows 8, why every icon still has to be a square with rounded corners.

Why couldn't the Camera icon have been a little larger and lost the grey background entirely? Why does the App Store icon have to be a circle within a square? Why not just make the icon circular? Same for iTunes. Why couldn't Mail have simply been an envelope without the blue surround? Safari -- make it look more like a compass; put a grey circle around it and lose the white.

I don't know, I haven't mocked up anything myself in Photoshop, but would the loss of uniform icon shapes, i.e. rounded rectangles for everything, have been that bad?

BTW, I agree that the Photos and Game Center icons say nothing to me, and the Notes icon is horrid.

I only like the Calendar icon.

Yeah I would say it's one of my favorite icon and what I wanted it to look But the iTunes and App Store is by far my most favorite.

Game Center: Bad (Add Punching Gloves Instead)

I was thinking the same thing. It's not like a lot of girls use game center. I feel it revolves more on the gaming side of teens and adult, why give us bubble?

All: epic fail.

I know.

they just might change safari. I feel they will hear a lot about that and make the change before release.

They want to keep a consistent shape with all their apps. Thats my guess.

The icons look very bad. They should have went with something like this instead:

As it is now, the icons look too different from each other compared to the previous version of iOS. Same goes for the rest of the interface. There's no unity in the design. Every app and setting looks too different from the rest.

I'm still hoping that it's some joke that Apple has pulled in order to conceal the actual GUI that they're working on, but knowing them, this might be close to final version.

What was shown today at WWDC looked like a major step back for iOS.

First I'd like to say that I really love my iPhone 4S and just really enjoy using it. Every single day. I've been using Macs for years as well and love the incremental changes to OS X and what it looks and feels like.

I know that all this is very personal, but I just cannot, in any way shape or form, even remotely like these new icons.

Just look at it...

All the bright colors are colors I genuinely despise and would never ever pick for anything. The purple and pink, the blue and green, the red and orange. I'm sure they're all based on the same grid, but this doesn't really come across. It's just a mixture of the most bizarre color and icon choices I've seen in a long time. If I knew nothing about Apple and would pass this product in a store, I wouldn't even give it a single second of attention.

I would really like to love this new look, because I think many of the new design decisions are really good, but I feel like using this every day is like living in a nightmare. I've always had some comments about Apple's design choices here and there, but overall it was always in line with what I really liked and could appreciate. I'm pretty sure though that even in a few months this will still feel like a silly joke, and I can't imagine upgrading or spending money on a newer iPhone to be stuck with this.

But enough of that, here are a few specific thoughts.

Icons I just can't understand:

- Camera: why isn't it even centred vertically? I count 12 pixels on top, 15 on the bottom. The f.

- The signal bars are now dots and take up a lot of space. Why is this so important and prominent? What's the use? They even removed any way of distinguishing buttons from anything else, but for some reason in every single screen we need to look at a bunch of relatively big dots.

- Newsstand icon seems like it's cut off and randomly placed into an icon container without any further thought

- Like others mentioned, Safari seems completely out of place with the white background. Why don't they do the same with e.g. Settings?

Icons that look ok, within this horrible context:

- Photos: simple yet not under-designed. Compare Photos with Weather. What do you make of that? Both are made up of very simple overlaid shapes, yet the Weather app looks extremely childish, whereas the Photos app looks "designed".

- Maps: fine icon; clear and simple.

- Clock: as good as it can be.

- Stocks: I don't find it appealing in any way, but it does look fitting.

- Passbook: same as with Photos, it's simple but looks "designed" and not childish. The colors are less extreme which is good.

Oh man.. I loved the Keynote up until this point. Good content, great new things, funny jokes, confident speakers. And then they present this, and suddenly I had no clue anymore why I would ever spend money on an iOS device again if I'd be stuck with this.

I still think we're being trolled by Apple, and they'll release something completely different looking for the final version. There's no way they can compare this to the previous iOS, and claim that this one looks better.

when has apple ever trolled anyone?

as far as i remember, aside from squashing bugs we've always gotten what we see in these previews.

I don't like any of the icons with a white background with the exception of the calendar app.

App icons that I do not like:

Photos
Notes
Reminders
Game Center (how do you get games with a group of different sized circles?)
Newsstand
Safari - (hate the most!)
Settings
Camera

In general, I think the colors are too bright. I was hoping it would be a little darker colors with a slight gradient similar to the WWDC 2013 app.

I hope the icons change before the gm version is released.

Messages: Just fine
Calendar: Just fine
Photos: Fine. Reminds me of snapseed.
Camera: It's fine
Weather: Reminds me of the MobileMe logo, but I like it
Clock: Looks just like the old one but without a gloss
Map: Really well done
Videos: Same as Maps
Notes: Better than the old one
Reminders: Same as Notes
Stocks: It's ok, but I liked the blue icon better
Game Center: It's not HORRIBLE, but it's not very good looking IMO
Newsstand: I like it
iTunes Store: Would have liked it if the logo was smaller
App Store: Same as iTunes store
Passbook: Clean and sharp. Well done
Compass: Very avantgarde
Settings: Very nice
Phone: Just fine.
Music: Too blood orange looking, but it's pretty good
Safari: I don't see the hate about this one. I really like the design (I am a designer myself). The white space isn't an issue at all.
Mail: Good design.

Overall I love all the icons. I guess I'm a rare breed.

I imagine it's because the camera lens is vertically centered - but yeah, it looks awkward. As does the Music icon, which is heavier on the left than the right (just so the two vertical lines are horizontally centered).

I was spoiled by looking at some of the truly fantastic iOS7 mocks.

Look at how mature and balanced that design is. I just don't have it in me to justify the tie-dye garbage of the current iOS7 design.

It bothers me that there are a lot of flat icon design in the Cydia store that beats Apple out of the water. There are talented people working on iOS, why downgrade there ability to make great app icons. The jailbroken iPhone app icon picture set by one of you in the previous post shows a perfect example of what apple should have done. The apps don't match each other. I think this is something apple needs to desperately fix in the final release.

Perhaps some of the icons will change. Keep in mind that it's still just a developer release.

To me they look second rate. Something you might expect for a freshman class mock up of an iPhone. Very amateur looking.

Contrast is lacking making many screen much harder to read.

Time for a change people. The old icons - detailed and as realistic as they are - are getting tiresome and dated, and sometimes, downright confusing. I don't need shadowing on something that's 1/4 inch across. Clean, functional - that's the way to go.

The fact that they're so weird to us is why they are going to end up being iconic. Any of the other mockups, although they look great, they are trying to look like the old ones in a new way. I think the actual iOS icons are great because they make people uneasy. I know that's weird, but people eventually get used to it, and then it becomes iconic.
