Hi there,

I have searched everywhere but not found an instance of this happening to anyone. My iPad is a 4th Gen and my UDID is registered on a Dev account. I installed iOS 7 Beta 2 and everything seems to have gone without a hitch. A few bugs and apps not working but I can see this is the same for many and to be expected.

However, when I open the stock camera I just get a black screen. I can see the controls on the right (sliding up and down works) but main button doesn't do anything. I did do a reinstall but the same thing happens.

Has anyone encountered this? The only thing I can think of is I don't set it up as a new iPad as I restore my data from my iCloud back-up.....soooo, maybe a conflict there? I am sure it will be sorted in future updates but I just wanted to know if it is just me!!

Many thanks :)

Definitely set it up as a new device. You really don't want to restore a backup from a previous OS, especially in an early beta test.

I thought as much and I suspect you're right. Would a factory restore do the trick or do I need to re-install again and then set up as new?

Well, factory restore didn't fix it. I did another full re-install and set up as new iPad but the camera is still black. Really weird as it seems to be only me at the moment!

Guess I will wait and see if beta 3 fixes it :/

Unfortunately I'm having the same issue on my iPhone 5. Been like it ever since I installed beta 1.

Hoping for a fix in future betas, or if anyone has found a solution please share. :)

The rear camera just is a blank, the flash light is grayed out also; but the front camera works fine; why couldn't it be the front camera that fails :( :p

Beta 3 fixed this issue for me.

I'm experiencing this issue still via Beta 3. Is anyone else still having camera problems?

Yep same issue. Started happening in beta 2, and now still having the issue even if i downgrade back to ios 6. I'm thinking i may need to take it in to the apple store and let them have a look. Got this phone last october and never had an issue with the camera till i installed ios 7.

Edit. just found that if i turn the flash off in my camera it seems to fix the problem. Maybe my flash is bad?.. i dunno

I'm with beta three and no luck. I've tried a few things to try and resolve it but no luck so far :/ Been like it since changing up to iOS7. :) Hope they sort it out in the next beta.

Doesn't work for me neither on my iPhone 5 and registered apple dev account.

Everything worked fine since the very first beta. I think it break during in beta 5, and beta 6 didn't fix it.

So my idea what might have happen:

I was trying to take a photo and it was totally dark in the room. I had the flash turned "on" in the camera app, but it only flashes when you push the trigger which makes it really hard to focus. So I thought that maybe you can bring up the control center and active the flashlight there so it will always be on. When I did that the camera app hang and as far as I know it didn't work since.

Now the back camera is all black and only the front camera works. I also have some trouble with the flashlight. Sometimes it's greyed out in control center so I can't even tap in. When I open a flashlight app it just says that I don't have an LED on my device. Very strange. I really do think that the flashlight have something to do with this problem.

When I reboot the flashlight works again, but I haven't got the camera to work again.

Any ideas?

Same EXACT thing happened to my iPhone 5 while on Beta 5. Even updating to Beta 6 didn't fix it. It's extremely annoying. I've tried restoring from backup but that didn't fix it, and I'm hesitant to set it up as a new phone since I'm not even sure that'll do the trick.

Hopefully Beta 7 fixes it.

Any news yet? I experiencing the same problem. I did a restore as new device and factory reset, this isn't the remedy.

I did more searches on Google and found various posts, this post was the remedy.

  • Open the camera app
(iOS6 the shutter won't open/iOS7 the screen stays black)

  • Hold the power and home button (until reset)
After the reboot the camera works again.

Tried this but did not work, so disappointed. Thank you for the suggestion, though.

I am on the iOS7 Gold Master by the way, still not working. Now starting to believe it's a hardware issue.

I'm in the same boat

I installed iOS7 on my iPad 4 last night and now the Camera doesn't work and neither does the microphone I have worked out that if you start the camera app and hit the reverse camera button straight away it will come on in "look at me mode" but as soon as you try and put it back to the back camera mode it freezes but no microphone so I cant try out the new siri!
and yes I have tried the factory restore and same result Apple support has refered me to an Apple store to have it diagnosed . My Kids have iPad 2 and 3 and both are working fine with iOS7

I have the same issue with the front-facing camera on my 4th generation iPad. I was wondering if anyone ever found a fix for this (other than taking their device to the Apple Store and getting it replaced). Thanks.

EDIT: I am not on the beta release, but on the public release. I just posted here because I have the same issue outlined above and I wasn't sure if users still had this issue after the public launch.
