Quick question regarding iOS 7 GM. If I install the GM, will I still be able to update to the public release on Wednesday?

Thank You to any answers.

The other half a dozen threads on the same exact topic( a few from just today or yesterday) somehow didn't answer the question?

Cheers for the info, reckon I will hold off just incase there is a difference. Can't be bothered with restoring if there is a build difference.

Apple wouldn't do that. They would not release a different version to the public than the GM. They would first seed a new GM to developers and then that would be the final release. The GM will always be the public release, whether it be the first GM or the 50th. The GM has already been loaded onto the 5c's and 5s' in the factory so I don't forsee them releasing a new GM build.

No, normally, it'll be the same build number. If it's different, you'll have to restore.

This is incorrect. At this point, even if a new GM build were created for widespread release Wednesday, all the new iPhones are running the current GM build. There would simply be an OTA update.

The build number has changed between the GM and public release before. That doesn't usually happen, but it definitely can.

Just once since iOS 2.0 as I recall... and having a different GM build on the day of public release is NOT the same as having to restore the iPhone and start from scratch. That can't happen at this point. The new iPhones already have the current GM installed so an OTA update would have to be provided.

iOS 4.2 had 2 GMs. Stop talking as if you worked for Apple. You don't and never will. ;)

Remind me again... what phones shipped with a GM of 4.2 where the customer had to completely erase/restore their phones to move up to another GM? Oh wait it never happened.

Also, 4.2 GM was not released to the public, the actual public release was 4.2.1. Just FYI.

The purpose of the GM build is so that developers can test with the same version that is going out to the public. If the 5c and 5s had a different build then it would be on ADC for download.

Says who? That's what I'm trying point out here, anyway, nevermind. I do hope the release will be different then the GM 'cause safari still crashes a lot on iPhone 5 and waiting for 7.0.1 would be a pain in the ass.

Why don't you honestly just stop and use Google for 2 seconds and you can see how often Apple releases a different GM when accompanying new hardware.

Even when iOS 4.0 was released with a last minute change (the removal of Game Center) it "shipped" with the same iOS build # as the GM available to Devs so everyone could be updated OTA.

'Cause it's 3 in the morning, I don't even understand what you say no more, I best be headin' to bed right?

That is part of the point of the GM--it is the same build that is used to be loaded on new hardware and is released to partners and developers. That is in essence the definition of GM actually.

The GM is the final version. It won't let you update because you are already running it.
