i definitely preferred the green signs too. the biggest issue about the change (for me at least) is that it doesn't show you the next street/direction beneath the current upcoming turn. i liked seeing what was coming up next so that i could plan which lane to be in, especially in areas with really short blocks, like a downtown area.

It definitely still has that functionality. In fact, it shows me the next turn more frequently and earlier than it did on iOS 7.

i'm assuming you meant to type ios 6? that's really weird. i've used the turn-by-turn navigation a few times in the past couple days and i didn't see the next set of directions.

It does it when the next turn is almost immediately following the previous.
Not sure exactly what they consider "immediately" but that's the only time I see it. Not much point if the turns are 5-miles apart.

oh, ok. good to know. i assumed it would be all the time or not at all. i guess my turns were not deemed to be close enough together (or i didn't glance at it when they were).

Yes, meant to type iOS 6.

For me, if the next turn is within half a mile at least I always see it, or if it can see that I would need to get over pretty quickly to make the next step.

This is precisely what I thought when I post in anotherdiscuss(so sad it seems only few people are agree with me). I called this change "flat only for the sake of flat".

*I think it is very serious. Since the beauty of iOS Map 6 UI is the only reason I use Apple map, and I believe there are many people like me.

Exactly. It is only the gorgeous UI of Apple Maps that keeps me away from Google, Scout, Waze, and all the rest.

And as you say, there are certain apps in which skewmorphs are necessary. Hey, I don't need leather on my contacts app and I don't need yellow lined paper on my notes app, but if I'm driving I want something that replicates the experience for me and road features and colors and signs matter. It's too strict an interpretation of the new "flat" rule. Apple is losing it.

I used maps for a while, but switched to Waze a few months ago. Way better in letting you know what is on the route ahead.

The cartoonish UI is a turn off for me. But with Apple maps iOS 7 demise I'll have to give Waze another shot.

I find the new apple maps unsettling. First, the volume is always too low, no matter what it is set for. Second, Apple overreacted to skeuomorphism, removing so much detail that it is now distracting trying to define boundaries on the screen to read the dumb thing. Back to navigon I go.

The only reason to choose Apple maps over all the others was how great it looked.

If that's gone in iOS 7, so is Apple maps.
