I feel sorry for slobs like me who installed it first on an ipad. I could not believe it.

I then installed it on my iPhone and G5 iPod touch and then realized what was going on.

Like everyone has said, it's an iPad 5 thing, and A little taste of Apple arrogance to ignore the present user base.

Let's just hope there is an improvement. I've been using it, and have gotten used to it, but it's buggy and I like the old version better. I think they screwed the pooch. Sorry

Oh well :D

They need to hurry up. I actually hate using the iPad mini now. Not sure why they didn't look at the software on the iPad more.

Just commenting on the use of the words 'complaining' and 'silence'. The way you said that reads like a contradiction unless I miss understood.

I meant we wouldnt mind waiting more instead of a buggy system if they didn't release update for ipad too soon.

I really don't think, its Apple's ignorance. it's more like they totally focused on the iOS 7 experience for the iPhone(s) because that was what was coming up first. The 5S really didn't have too much visual differences, typical with S models, and so they had to enhance it through applications in the software.

Even when they started with the first beta, there was no support for the iPads. What's going to happen in reality is that Apple is keeping the iOS 7 for the iPad with a few surprises in the 7.1 variant, along with new OS X and iWork. that 7.1 will include various new tweaks, features and reduced bugs ( its not going to be completely corrected..never will be! new ones will come up) to make it more optimized.

The user interface definitely isn't optimised for the iPad. They've obviously spent time optimising how things appear on an iPhone screen, but haven't taken advantage of the larger canvas of the iPad.

I've updated my iPad 2 (which belongs to my employer), but my own iPad 3 is still on iOS 6.

There are two things in particular:

  • Folders are quite messy on the iPad. They could show a lot more than 9 items in that massive pop-up.
  • The music app doesn't look great on the iPad. Go into 'album view' on iOS 6 and you can see 24 albums on your screen. On iOS 7, you'll see 8 albums.

Apple made this big deal about the translucency of the os, and a less than year old device (iPad mini) can't support it. If there are any developers out there(or people who want to guess) why can't a device support translucency? How memory and cpu intensive is it?
i think i would sacrifice 1-2 hours of battery life for translucency, since at the moment I get easily 12 hours of internet surfing and youtube watching
I updated to iOS7 on the hopes that it would be like the adverts and the videos, but the core elements are missing.

No problems on my mini.

Ah ok ok I see, sorry.

Hope Apple keeps this up.I have an Ipad4 with ios6. It should be worth a fortune very soon.

The Apple empire will crumble at this rate without Jobs. The reason I bought the ipad was for its seamless and speedy operation. Now we have an Android tablet without the benefits of an Android tablet. The worst of both worlds.

The expression "Planned obsolescence" has been like flashing on my mind all the time as I was reading this thread. But planned obsolescence at the speed of light! I own an iPad 3. It's like new and, what the ...., it's new! However they want me to believe I should be selling it for half the price I paid to get the new-new-new iPad. Poor old iPad 3!

I expected much more from Apple than half-cooked OS and users begging for an update for their expensive products to work.

Always claiming Apple is different... THE BEST, they say. Hey, we are not like those in Microsoft, Android, blahblah. We care. You just have to "EXPERIENCE".

Yes, I am experiencing frustration and disappointment with Apple for this and other stuff. And I don't care a thing about how many phones you sell!

While it's not perfect for the iPad, it's not "half-cooked" and it in no way makes my iPad necessary to sell today at half price. I initially overreacted at a couple of issues that I would now say are definite bugs because the overall operation of my iPad 3 is just fine on iOS 7. Anyone else saying that Apple is trying to get us to buy the new iPad via "planned obsolescence" is just looking for a reason to complain about Apple.

Obviously I can't disagree more with you. And I've noticed that whenever someone complains, another one comes saying it's "just looking for a reason to complain about Apple". I respect your opinion, but the way I see it, I am a customer disappointed. You say it's not half-cooked. I wonder what's half-cooked to you after reading this and other threads with many (not one or two) customers experiencing serious problems to normally use their tablets right after upgrading. It is clear as water to me, but well.

I owe Apple nothing. I paid what they asked me for my iPad. Now I deserve what i have paid for. If iOS 7 was not meant for my tablet they should warn me and I would be a happy customer. Is this really looking for reasons to complain?

Outside of a bug when trying to set the wallpaper and a couple of small UI differences that are not iPad specific as they usually are, there are no major issues. So no, not half-baked.

Apple can go a long way in generating good will for customers by allowing customers to downgrade their devices to a previous version of iOS. Allowing the installation of an older version of an app that is compatible with a particular iOS version is a step in the right direction.

Allowing customers to downgrade iOS would be sufficient. They wouldn't even have to continue support for the older iOS version, simply provide the capability to downgrade.

I have no problems on mine, but I just think Apple could have actually made the ui translucent like they were talking about in the adverts and the keynote speeches

It is on mine. Have you got Increased Contrast turned off?

Ah ok ok I see, sorry.

This right here makes so much sense to me that I'm not even going to think about updating my ipad3 until the RESULTS come in on 7.1

Thanks daywiz...:apple:

On the contrary, I always wait a good 3-4 days before jumping up and updating, being doing that since my first ipad, and later i shift to my my parents' iphone. Usually my parents' phone, only after a week or so ( i did that for iOS 5 & 6). So it doesn't hurt to wait for a couple of days, see the RESULTS and then update your iPad 3.

Your welcome RenoG...;)

7.0.2 popped up as availiable. I'll STILL wait till I hear positive results. Glad I still didn't download 7.

My rule of thumb: Stick with the version of iOS that was released at the time the hardware was released... only upgrade if it is absolutely necessary.

Wise rule. You miss some nice new features but you probably save a lot of headaches and your machine keeps working as always did.

It sort of looks nice, and I'm getting used to it. Fortunately, ther are no Major screw ups.

All the glass stuff seems to slow it down just a little ( maybe not), and there are some bugs that they will fix

One complaint (that I'm not sure about really) but bugs me.

The 'find on page' in Safari (I us it all the time) is now a hassle. It used to have its own space, now you have to scroll down. I'm not sure why they did this, except to simplify, but I have a feeling they blew it for the sake of streamlining; which is just the sort of 'major screw up' I was afraid of.

I'm sure everyone has a beef or two.
