yup, i feel a greater sense of visual feedback when using the pre-ios7 keyboard as well.

feedback is useful and important, and iOS7 overall still gives a general feeling of disconnect and disorientation where previous versions had a sense of immediacy.

That's the word I was looking for, thank you. Visual feedback. There is none of it. There is none of that "I touched a button" feeling. Instead, there's a feeling of disconnect between what you're tapping and how it's responding to you, and I think it's that disconnect that makes me feel "stressed" when I'm using iOS 7, because my mind has to work extra hard to pay attention on whether the device is responding to me, and when I come across the iOS 6 keyboard, I feel so much relief because there's visual feedback everywhere.

I think Apple underestimated just how much "skeu" plays into visual feedback, that it wasn't just all gloss and shine, there was reason behind all of those textures.

The keyboard is one of my biggest frustrations with iOS now. I think what I take out of this thread is there are different opinions. I really think this is one place where it would benefit Apple to open up the API's. Swiftkey is a fantastic Keyboard and they have interest in bringing it to iOS. I would love to have a little choice regarding this on my phone since it is so integral to using it.

My biggest problem with iOS7 is it seems half-done and the keyboard reflects that in my opinion.

Took me forever to get up to this guy's speeds, the amount of predictive spelling errors I got and all the missed keys on iOS 7 last summer, resorted me to dictation.

I can only get about 65 WPM now, iOS 7 really screwed everything up for me.

And to the person who claimed the Safari buttons don't show a pressed state... You're actually just wrong.

Just to provide a visual comparison:

The screenshot on the right is from iOS 3. And it really was possible to notice the "shine" underneath your finger. It was quite functional in that respect... :/

The option in 7.1 to always use the darker version will be nice to me since I find the 7 version too bright. I wish the grey behind the keys was darker. But more than that, I'd like the font to be bolder. If I choose the pref to make the fonts bolder system wide, why can't the affect the keyboard as well? I mean jeezus, I just want to clearly see the the letters and numbers. Overall I'm much faster on the OS 6 keyboard.

Aren't the buttons spaced enough apart that you don't need a visual indicator?

The bold option in 7.1 seems to apply to the keyboard as well.

I just wonder why typing on the iOS7 keyboard is so difficult. I swear things shifted or got resized, even though when overlayed it's the exact same size as iOS6.

100% agree! By now I have adjusted to it, but I still remember during the first weeks of beta how frequently I misspelled something suddenly..

I've been an Android guy for 2 years, just got a 5s. I miss the Google Keyboard so much. Lower case letters look lower case, upper case letters look upper case.

It's so hard to revert autocorrected words! I just click the word on Android, and it pops up my original typed word and some others. On iPhone, I have to either type slowly and X out of the suggestion... or just squeeze my finger back to where the word is and delete everything.

iOS 7 keyboard vs iOS 6 keyboard

Imo ios6 and 7 both have horrible keyboards. Why does the keyboard decide when i get to use the number pad...

Press and hold text to use the magnifying glass.

Or you can just backspace to the end of the word, like this.

That only works after the fact, and only if that's the last word right..... On Android, I could just type away, proofread, and if I notice something autocorrected, click anywhere on the word, and it would show me suggestions (original, others).

:) neat feature :) I've just been poking in the word wondering why it never gets in between the letters lol

iOS6 > iOS7 for the time being.

I find the use of the keyboard to be one of the major aspects with my statement... I find it a lot easier to use the older keyboard. It's like the contrast helps put your pupils to where you want your fingers to go. If you don't have that you have to adapt to find it.

iOS7 has changed too many things... like trying to call your contact from the SMS App... you ahve to hit a phone button then a pop up appears ... 1) the pop up doesn't have clear boundaries to where you have to press and makes it harder just to see and simply go there, specially when you are in a hurry.

2) if I have a facetime button right next to it, why do I need a pop up asking me for facetime or calling?

3) if the contact doesn't have iMessage, it is safe to say he doesn't have facetime too....

I think they can streamline all this and I can't wait for the jailbreak to come out just to get bitesms back.

Pixel by pixel it's the exact same, it just seems like they adjusted where each key 'ends'.

No visual feedback on the keyboard...? What the heck are you talking man... When you hit a button it bloats like the images below... And if that is not visual feedback enough then you have bigger issues than iOS 7...!!!

Precisely... If you can't hit accurately in such far spaced buttons I don't know what to say... Maybe they have serious medical issues then... How hard is it to hit the button you want...? They aren't as close as the buttons on the keyboard... And I could never see the shine in ios6 either as my right hand thumb is partially smashed... and with a really fat thumb I still don't have problems navigating through safari...

iOS 7 keyboard vs iOS 6 keyboard

Decide what now, and where exactly?

This... It sometimes pops up when the iphone determines that a field can only be numeric; it decides for me.

I wonder if that might be something that is set up in the app or perhaps a website to tell iOS what to display, in which case it's a choice that the app developer or website creator makes.

I get that keyboard in the app Notesy when entering a passcode.

The FaceTime button is to video call. It asks you if you want to call or do FaceTimr audio-only.
