Hi all,

I've had a few people from the "general public" comment on iOS 7 after they had to use my phone for something and many I've heard mentioning it "looks like Samsung". I personally do not find it to resemble Touch Wiz but what do you guys think? Do you think the reaction the "general public" will have to iOS 7 will be different from the one us "geeks" have had?

I've seen people say that it looks like Android, but I honestly don't see the resemblance. iOS 7 is lighter and more colourful whereas Android is dark and makes me think of Tron.

Most of the Android comments Ive gotten are when I show multitasking. Everyone says "They copied Android" to which I say "Android Copied Palm. They also copied Apple which invented the whole concept of a smartphone like this".

For a lot of people Samsung is Android. My guess is people think of Android where oems often add poorly designed elements on top of Android versions. I think the public will go mad when iOS 7 is released. People loved how iOS used to look like. The features in iOS 7 are fantastic but I believe going flat in design is a mistake. Apple sells x amount of iPhones for every Android phone. The problem in iOS 6 was icons that was designed pre retina, too much skeuomorphic design like notification dropdown menu, Game Center, notes. iOS 7 lack contrast and color. It's to much white and Gaussian blur. Could iOS 7 be fabulous and insanely great? Yes, but they will have to tone everything down. I believe this design will in a much larger degree force designer to design flat. With iOS 6 you could change the look of buttons and navbar in iOS 6 to a more flat look. It will be harder to design anything else than flat apps in iOS 7 with removal of buttons, integrated status bar, full width menus, Gaussian blur menus.

Touchwiz is uglier than sin

It honestly doesn't look anything like Android in general, but it definitely has Windows phone elements.

Thanks for the replies guys! I definitely love iOS 7, and I don't think I resemble Touch Wiz, or any Android skin for that matter. However, I do believe it will be interesting to see what the reaction will be from the general public, I can already imagine the reaction of a few members of my family when, after they click that update button, their device will look completely different. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple Care received an elevated number of calls in the days following the public launch...

There's only so much variety when smartphones run on apps. That is a natural limiting factor just like their rectangular shapes. I like the general appearance, it's functionality that matters for me, that's why I choose iOS.

I don't really get the comparison myself. Bottom line is that Apple no matter what they do isn't going to please everyone. iOS7 seems to be one of those things that people either like or hate, there doesn't seem to be much grey area there. I like it, I think its a nice upgrade over iOS6. People say butt its boring, I say to them you need to find some other things to add to your life is your OS for your phone is boring you.

I had a Galaxy S4 and the god awful touchwiz and I can confirm that iOS7 looks NOTHING like it. I really like iOS7 as it goes :)

Yuck, no way.

Samsung would provide an amazing device if not for touchwiz. Most disgusting looking UI of all of the Android UI's.

My dad had an IBM Simon long before the iPhone came out. But yes Touchwiz is god awful.

i think, iOS7 did copy some features from touchwiz, but the white theme makes it hard to compare with touchwiz. BTW, touchwiz has a lot of lags and glitches. i'm just really happy with iOS7:)

True, before iOS7 came out, it was easy to predict that it would be very light and colorful, so that it would provide the most contrast with Android (which was designed with dark backgrounds that go nicely with AMOLED screens).

However, Google went with a light colored background when they introduced Google Now cards. And iOS sometimes has dark backgrounds (think the new Compass app). So there's some mixture.

Most of the comments in this thread have to do with vanity. A characteristic that in no way impacts the usefulness of any smartphone. If one chooses based on appearance over usefulness, it always reflects on the individual. All the rest of us are too busy using and enjoying our Androids & iPhones to care.

It's just that simple. :)
