@OP Don't bother thinking too much about your idea and posting it on MacRumors. Seriously. There is a sort of mantra here: if Apple haven't done it before and tends to be "anti-minimalist", it's too much clutter or completely useless. No discussion needed.

I think you're being a bit presumptuous. The people that don't like the idea, just don't like the idea.

I have an iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1) and Droid RAZR (Android 4.1)

The text/email/phone shortcut is built into Android, and it is handy. You can add a shortcut to any item associated with a contact. Smash one button, and you're creating a new email/text/phone call for that person.
I think you can add a gallery (album in iOS) shortcut in Android, but haven't tried.
